Steve Martin Defends Latest Golden Globes Host After Backlash Pours In

The 81st Golden Globe Awards wrapped up on Sunday evening‚ pitting several worthy contenders vying for the ultimate prizes. Tasked with hosting the event was Jo Koy‚ who has six comedy shows released by Comedy Central and Netflix. He’s also the first Asian to solo host the Golden Globes. However‚ Koy’s performance as host has come under fire since the ceremony ended. Coming to his defense is five-time Grammy winner Steve Martin‚ who has hosted the Oscars three times. Martin‚ an EGOT winner‚ is praising Koy for managing the responsibility‚ reminding viewers‚ “It’s a very difficult job.” Jo Koy faces criticism for his Golden Globe hosting performance Jo Koy gave an opening monologue that received mixed reviews / YouTube screenshot On multiple occasions‚ Koy received what can be considered a lukewarm response to his jokes. A clip of Taylor Swift looking unamused at his jab at her NFL coverage has now gone viral‚ for example. Other stars looked less than entertained. RELATED: ‘Home Improvement’s’ Patricia Richardson Defends Her On-Screen Husband Tim Allen He also took a jab at Barbie‚ directed by Greta Gerwig and winner of the inaugural Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Koy described the movie as being about “a plastic doll with big boobies.” In response‚ Gerwig said‚ “Well‚ he’s not wrong‚” elaborating‚ “She’s the first doll that was mass-produced with breasts‚ so he was right on. And you know‚ I think that so much of the project of the movie was unlikely because it is about a plastic doll. Barbie by her very construction has no character‚ no story‚ she’s there to be projected upon.” Koy faced negative feedback the morning after his monologue and other jokes throughout the Golden Globes. In response‚ Koy said‚ “It’s a tough room. It was a hard job.” Steve Martin defends Jo Koy in response to the backlash Steve Martin‚ who hosted the Oscars three times‚ defended Jo Koy / YouTube screenshot At his side is Steve Martin. “I tip my hat to anyone who steps out on stage to host a live awards show‚” said the Father of the Bride star. “It’s a very difficult job and not for the squeamish. I know because I’m still throwing up from the last time I did it in 2010.” He went on‚ “So‚ Congratulations to Jo Koy‚ who took on the toughest gig in show business‚ hit‚ missed‚ was light on his feet‚ and now has twenty minutes of new material for his stand-up!” Martin is joined by Whoopi Goldberg‚ who saw Swift’s unenthused reaction and said‚ “These hosting gigs are brutal. They’re just brutal. If you don’t know the room‚ if you’ve not been in these rooms before and you’re thrust out there‚ it’s hit or miss.” Martin has reminded viewers that the job is a very difficult one / © Buena Vista Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection Koy has also explained some of his choices behind that evening‚ saying he needed “five months‚ not nine days” to prepare. “We were still writing up until they said we’re live‚” he explained. “Absolute cold reads‚ never got a chance to work out anything. And this is not an excuse. I’m just trying to paint the picture because I don’t think people understand‚ in any situation‚ how is that geared towards winning?” Koy felt the weight of his responsibility as the first Asian to solo host in over eight decades‚ musing‚ “Imagine if someone said yes before me. We’d still be at the 82nd Golden Globes and still no Asian as a solo host‚ so if I didn’t say yes‚ there still would never have been.” What did you think of the award ceremony? University Student Wins ‘Jeopardy!’ During Second Appearance‚ Heads To Tournament Final

Jeopardy! is actually a familiar stomping ground for college student Rotimi Kukoyi‚ who just enjoyed a high-tension win and is primed to head to the final tournament. This latest season of the game show has been themed around second chances and over half a decade after originally appearing on the game show‚ Kukoyi is getting his and taking full advantage of this second bid for victory. The last time Kukoyi appeared on Jeopardy! was six years ago‚ back when he was just a freshman in high school and the host was longtime Jeopardy! head honcho Alex Trebek. Today‚ he’s a sophomore at the University of North Carolina (UNC) competing with Ken Jennings as host. Here’s the latest in his journey to the top. UNC sophomore Rotimi Kukoyi is getting a second chance at winning ‘Jeopardy!’ Rotimi Kukoyi as a high school freshman and college sophomore / Jeopardy Productions‚ Inc. via the University of North Carolina Kukoyi returned to Jeopardy! on Tuesday and held his own against other returning hopefuls. Everyone brought their best game that night with some $2‚200 separating the potential victors. Kukoyi was just $600 behind in second place. RELATED: ‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Outraged To Learn The Show Does Not Cover Contestant’s Travel‚ Hotel Then came the last category‚ The Ancient World. “This text helped the soul‚ or Ka‚ navigate the journey into a region called Amenti‚” read the clue. Kukoyi correctly answered The Book of the Dead and his wager put him exactly $1 ahead of the competition to claim first place. Kukoyi also held strong during Final Jeopardy thanks to his training routine that involved over 9‚000 flashcards‚ which he learned at a rate of 800 to 1‚000 per day all while managing his coursework. This college sophomore is taking full advantage of his second chance at ‘Jeopardy!’ Kukoyi was unable to participate in an earlier reunion / Jeopardy Productions‚ Inc. via the University of North Carolina This all means Kukoyi will head to the two-day final tournament. The winner of that will secure a spot on the Champions Wildcard event. But already‚ Kukoyi has made history as the youngest contestant in the quiz show’s Second Chance Tournament. This themed tournament gives former contestants a rare chance to try their hand at victory again‚ despite some trends in Jeopardy! usually making this a rarity. “It says right there in the paperwork — once you’re on this competition‚ only come back if you’re invited‚” said Kukoyi. This reunion might have happened a bit sooner had circumstances not gotten in the way; he caught COVID-19 just in time for Jeopardy!’s High School Reunion Tournament. However‚ the show’s producers actually assured him‚ “We’ll have you back for something later.” The first time he competed‚ Alex Trebek hosted‚ and now Ken Jennings is in charge / YouTube screenshot Sure enough‚ on a day Kukoyi happened to be wearing his Jeopardy! hoodie‚ he got a text with the promised invite. Kukoyi is a Morehead-Cain Scholar majoring in health policy and management‚ while minoring in biology and chemistry‚ with plans to become a physician. Hopefully‚ all these victories represent a sign of more good things to come for the former high school student who made headlines for getting accepted into all 15 of the colleges he applied to! Best of luck‚ Rotimi Kukoyi. He won the evening by $1 / YouTube screenshot RELATED: Ken Jennings Says Mayim Bialik’s Departure From ‘Jeopardy!’ Blindsided Him Click for next Article The post University Student Wins ‘Jeopardy!’ During Second Appearance‚ Heads To Tournament Final appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
