State Officials Seize Internet-Famous Rescue Squirrel From Guardian, Euthanized Alongside Raccoon

A pet squirrel who became an internet sensation was euthanized after the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) seized him from his guardian. Peanut the Squirrel, referred to as “P’Nut” on social media, was put to death alongside Fred the raccoon so that the animals could be tested for rabies. “New York wildlife officers raided Mark Longo’s home, seizing his rescue squirrel Peanut after complaints about ‘unsafe squirrel housing’ and ‘wildlife gone wild’ hit the department. Peanut is an internet sensation known for donning cowboy hats and sharing waffles with cats. The raid, which Longo describes as ‘overkill,’ also led to the confiscation of Fred the raccoon,” Mario Nawfal explained. WATCH: PEANUT THE SQUIRREL ARRESTED IN NYC!? On Oct. 30, DEC seized a raccoon and squirrel sharing a residence with humans, creating the potential for human exposure to rabies. In addition, a person involved with the investigation was bitten by the squirrel. To test for rabies, both animals were euthanized. The animals are being tested for rabies and anyone who has been in contact with these animals is strongly encouraged to consult their physician. From the New York Post: Peanut’s guardian Mark Longo took to Instagram to memorialize his beloved pet in a video. Through tears Longo, with his girlfriend at his side, said, “Peanut was the best thing that ever happened to us.” “RIP MY BEST FRIEND. Thank you for the best 7 years of my life. Thank you for bringing so much joy to us and the world. I’m sorry I failed you but thank you for everything,” Longo wrote in a caption to the post announcing Peanut’s death. Longo also asked fans for financial help for a “legal battle” and for his non-profit P’Nut’s Freedom Farm. The DEC claims that Peanut, who was notably docile and friendly over the course of his very public facing life, bit one of the investigators on the hand while being confiscated from his Elmira home on Wednesday. Longo rescued Peanut after he witnessed the squirrel’s mother hit by a car. “Seven years ago, a tiny, fluffy baby squirrel entered our lives and changed everything. ‘Peanut the Squirrel’ quickly captured hearts and became a household name. Despite being reintroduced to the wild, Peanut faced adversity, losing half of his tail in a severe attack. Without developing essential wildlife instincts, Peanut became an indoor, non-releasable squirrel. Remarkably, Peanut went on to become the first squirrel to amass over 1 million, and then 2 million, followers on TikTok, with a combined social media following of over 3 million,” P’Nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary says on its website. “Thanks to the overwhelming love and support from our dedicated followers, we established ‘P’nuts Freedom Farm.’ This sanctuary is a haven where neglected and homeless animals receive a second chance at life. Join us on this incredible journey as we rescue animals in desperate need of care and provide them with the highest quality of life. At P’nuts Freedom Farm, we believe in transforming lives and creating a future full of hope and compassion for every animal we save,” it adds. “Social media star Peanut the squirrel was taken by authorities in New York and euthanized. His owners Mark & Daniela Longo came on TMZ Live to talk about the insane raid on their home, how they found out Peanut was killed and what this means for their animal sanctuary,” TMZ Live wrote. He said Peanut returned to his porch a day and a half later with a broken bone sticking out of its tail, at which point Longo determined Peanut couldn’t survive in the wild alone and instead would move in with him. Since then, Peanut has won over the internet’s hearts, amassing 537,000 followers on his Instagram page run by Longo. Videos on the page show Peanut snacking on waffles and welcoming Longo home when he walks through the front door. Fred, the raccoon, was a more recent addition to Longo’s home. In a tearful video posted to Peanut’s Instagram account Friday, Longo held a portrait of his pet and thanked followers for their support. “Peanut was the best thing that ever happened to us,” Longo said through tears. “I want to continue to fight this fight as much as I can but we need all of you to come together and help us.” The caption of the video reads: “RIP MY BEST FRIEND. Thank you for the best 7 years of my life. Thank you for bringing so much joy to us and the world. I’m sorry I failed you but thank you for everything.” Multiple anonymous complaints led DEC officers to Longo’s house in Pine County, New York, on Wednesday, prompting Longo to plead for his pet’s release. “Well internet, you WON. You took one of the most amazing animals away from me because of your selfishness. To the group of people who called DEC, there’s a special place in hell for you,” Longo wrote on Peanut’s Instagram Wednesday. Longo and his wife moved to Upstate New York last year to start P’Nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary, which is named for his pet and officially opened in April 2023. The sanctuary houses more than 350 rescues and has been relying “heavily” on donations from Peanut’s online followers to help more animals, Longo said in the Instagram post Wednesday. WATCH:

Anna Paulina Luna has blazed an unlikely trail to Capitol Hill. A decade ago, she appeared as a Maxim model driving a cherry-red Chevy Nova SS. Now, at 35, she’s not only the youngest Republican in the House and the first Mexican-American representative from Florida, but she’s back in Maxim, proving that power and glamour are not mutually exclusive,” Maxim wrote. “I am excited to announce I have been given the November and December cover of @MaximMag! This is a special issue titled the American Dream! I am honored to share my story and talk politics with so many young people around the country,” Luna said. “The magazine is now available in newsstands across the nation! Read my exclusive interview at http://maxim.com ! The issue is also covering President Trump!” she added. I am excited to announce I have been given the November and December cover of @MaximMag ! The magazine is now available in… pic.twitter.com/3LfjdtFOan — Anna Paulina Luna (@realannapaulina) November 1, 2024 Here’s a snippet from Luna’s interview with Maxim: What has surprised you most about the world of politics? How quickly things leak to the press! I remember when I first got elected, we were in a closed-door session to talk about the election of the next Speaker of the House, and no press was allowed. After the meeting, I headed back to my office, and before I could even let my chief of staff know what had happened, he asked me about a conversation in the meeting. I later found out that someone was leaking information to the press. News travels at lightning speed in Washington, and the press is everywhere. There’s so much bias and propaganda masquerading as news. What do you think has led us to this? It seemed like during the Obama years, the media began to be openly involved in propaganda. This largely increased when Donald Trump decided to run for president in 2015. The mask of the legacy media was removed and exposed for what it really was. Then, social media started to push out legacy media. With censorship isolating viewpoints and preventing dialogue, I believe this led to polarization. I know certain platforms were censoring because I investigated them and saw clear evidence as a congressional investigator on House Oversight. However, being a public figure and elected official makes it hard to combat slander and defamation as we don’t have the same protections as a private citizen would. Donald Trump is the most successful political entrepreneur of our generation. What are some things you’ve learned from him? I’ve known President Trump for four years. There are four things I’ve learned from him: First, always do what you think is right for the people you serve, even if it means going against the grain and sometimes your own party. The Washington, D.C. elite is real, and when it comes to fixing a broken system, being an outsider is not a bad thing. Second, the best deal comes at the eleventh hour. I’ve learned a lot from listening to him talk about interactions with foreign leaders and dealing with brokering trade deals. Honestly, he’s made me a better negotiator. Next, stay focused. Don’t drink. Don’t smoke. Have a clear head. Finally, don’t forget the personal touch. Behind closed doors, he’s the most hospitable and caring person I’ve ever met. His family adores him, and so does his staff. He has personal friendships with many members of Congress and the Senate and does little things to stay in touch, such as writing letters and making calls. “Ps this was shot months ago after Dems tried to cancel me for being featured on Sports Illustrated and Maxim. The fact is women can be smart, independent, successful, and Republican. Stop trying to bully us into voting a certain way,” Luna wrote. Unlike Kamala Harris, I’m standing up for what’s right, and I’ll keep fighting for women in this country. Kudos to the Supreme Court for protecting women’s sports!” Luna said. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young | Live At The Fillmore East, 1969 – Live Release Review

After their first big public appearance at Woodstock in 1969, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young spent the rest of that most tumultuous year touring and writing songs for their CSNY debut album, 1970’s Déjà Vu. Somewhere in between, the band played September 20, 1969, concert at the historic Fillmore East in New York City. A multi-track recording of that show was recently discovered and now we have Live At The Fillmore East, 1969. Featuring both acoustic and electric sets, the 17 songs reveal a group of incredible talents, who command the stage on their own as much as they do as part of the band they were to become. First up is The Acoustic Set, beginning with “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” a beautifully harmonized stab at “Blackbird,” along with “Helplessly Hoping” and “Guinnevere,” which features perfect picking and harmonies. Nash manages a slightly rough solo vocal go on “Our House,” his organ accompaniment the only instrument, and Young brings in a startling lead vocal on “I’ve Loved Her So Long.” The voices together truly make a magical mix, but Stills is the standout, both with his acoustic guitar flipping and flicking and his vocal. The Electric Set features the group filled out with drummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Greg Reeves. It begins with Reeves; low rumble pushing along “Long Time Gone.” Young takes out “Down By The River” from his Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere album, stretching it out to a big jam between him and Stills with the whole set ending on “Find The Cost Of Freedom,” a Stills tune that would be released as the B-side to “Ohio.” It’s a quick flick of a song, offering, once again, a beautiful mix of voices, but it’s not much of a tune actually, proving the weakest moment on Live At The Fillmore East, 1969. That being said, it’s a real treat to hear this music, not only because of its historical significance before CSNY truly exploded, but also because the four principals just sound so damn good together. ~ Ralph Greco, Jr. Purchase Live At The Fillmore East, 1969

Wars in the Mid-East and Russia-Ukraine Heat Up

The United States deployed nuclear-capable B-52 bombers, fighter jets, refueling aircraft, and Navy destroyers to the Middle East over growing regional tensions, particularly with Iran. The Pentagon confirmed that several B-52 Stratofortress bombers, a squadron of fighter jets, tanker aircraft, and Navy destroyers will begin arriving soon as part of this increased military presence.
