November 5th is still about a week away, but more than 47 million Americans have already voted.  Early voting has become quite prominent in states all over the country, and the numbers that we are getting so far appear to be quite promising for the Trump campaign.  There have been rumors that the Harris campaign is starting to panic, and I think that they have good reason to panic.  Unless something dramatic happens over the next week, it is going to be very difficult for Harris to find a path to 270 electoral votes.  Today, I want to take a closer look at the all-important swing state of Pennsylvania.  Without Pennsylvania, there is probably no possible way that Harris can win, and right now the numbers we are getting from the state do not look promising for her. In 2020, Joe Biden got 3,458,229 votes in Pennsylvania and Donald Trump got 3,377,674. So Biden won the state by a margin of less than 100,000 votes. Unlike other states, in-person early voting is not happening in Pennsylvania.  All of the early votes that are coming in are mail ballots, and Democrats tend to dominate mail voting all over the nation. But the numbers that we are getting from Pennsylvania in 2024 look much different from the numbers that we got from Pennsylvania in 2020. In 2020, a total of 3,087,524 mail ballots were requested, but in 2024 only 2,090,960 mail ballots have been requested and the deadline for requesting one is almost here. So there will be close to a million fewer mail ballots that could potentially be sent in this time around. Needless to say, that is huge. In addition, the gap between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to mail voting in Pennsylvania has narrowed considerably this election cycle. In 2020, Democrats returned 1,702,484 mail ballots and Republicans returned 623,404 mail ballots. So Democrats had built up a lead of more than a million votes in the state before Election Day even arrived. That absolutely gigantic lead proved to be too much, and Trump ultimately lost by a narrow margin. But things are very different here in 2024. According to the latest numbers, Democrats have returned 823,421 mail ballots and Republicans have returned 443,935 mail ballots. Instead of the million ballot lead that they had last time, Democrats have only built up a gap of less than 400,000 ballots so far. Everyone is projecting that Trump will run far stronger than Harris on the day of the election in Pennsylvania, and if Harris ultimately loses Pennsylvania it is hard to see how she could pull together enough electoral votes to win the election. But there is still about a week to go until November 5th, and so much could still happen. Hopefully voting will go very smoothly all over the country, but already we are getting some very troubling reports. For example, on Monday fires were reported at ballot boxes in Oregon and Washington… Federal authorities are investigating fires at two ballot boxes reported Monday morning in the Portland, Oregon, area. Police responded to a call about a fire in Portland about 3:30 a.m. Monday, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement. An “incendiary device” was placed inside the box and security personnel extinguished the fire, officials said. Federal officials are investigating the incident in Portland and a second fire in nearby Vancouver, Washington, with the help of state and local law enforcement agencies, said Steve Bernd, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Seattle office. This should make all of us very angry. When someone tries to disrupt the voting process, they are committing a crime against all of us. At this point, police are telling us that the two incidents are connected and they have identified a “suspect vehicle”… Police say two fires set at ballot boxes in separate states are connected with just eight days until Election Day in what appears to be a serious case of attempted election interference. In Portland, Oregon, police have identified a ‘suspect vehicle’ after a ballot box in the southeast part of the city was lit on fire early Monday morning and hundreds of votes were destroyed. Hopefully they will catch whoever did this. In Colorado, “nearly 30,000 previously cast votes” are getting a second look after a number of fraudulent ballots were caught by authorities… Mesa County, Colorado, is reexamining nearly 30,000 previously cast votes after the discovery of a dozen fraudulent ballots, with some voters reporting that ballots were intercepted and submitted without their consent. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced Thursday during a press conference that over a dozen mailed ballots were intercepted and cast fraudulently before the actual voters even had a chance to receive them. This alarming situation has sparked a full-blown criminal investigation, and three of those fraudulent votes were counted before the tampering was caught. Colorado could be one of the big surprises on November 5th. It had been considered to be a lock for the Democrats, but so far Democrats have only built up a lead of about 3 percent in votes cast during the early voting period. Once we get to the night of the election, most of the nation will be breathlessly awaiting the results. And when it is all over, one side is going to be experiencing very deep emotional pain. For a long time I have been warning that we will see extreme chaos in the aftermath of this election, and a newly released poll has discovered that most Americans believe that civil unrest is likely… Most Americans expect violence following Election Day but remain confident their vote will be counted accurately and are willing to accept the results of the presidential race, a new Scripps News/Ipsos poll found. The survey of 1,000 Americans finds bipartisan concerns over unrest after Nov. 5. Overall, 62% of respondents – including 70% of Democrats and 59% of Republicans – say violence related to the election is “somewhat“ or “very likely.” And among respondents in the key battleground state of Wisconsin, which was also measured as part of the survey, concerns over violence are higher, at 72%. My hope is that once a winner is declared, the mainstream media, key celebrities and our top political leaders will all urge Americans to be calm. But I wouldn’t count on that happening. Instead, I think that it is far more likely that about half the country will throw a historic temper tantrum, and that won’t be good for any of us. Dov Fischer rightly clobbered Tony Hinchcliffe, the not-so-funny comedian and podcaster who laid an egg or two in his segment at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, yesterday here at The American Spectator. I have no argument with anything Rabbi Dov said. Hinchcliffe’s address disparaging Puerto Rico as an “island of garbage” — which doesn’t necessarily play as badly with Puerto Ricans who got out of there as one might think but why take the risk? — was an unforced error in what was otherwise an unquestionable victory for the Trump campaign at Madison Square Garden. Balanced against Tucker Carlson’s magnificent nine minutes and Vivek Ramaswamy’s tour de force, it’s but a blip on the screen, but on the other hand why have a blip? But Dov, I’ll see your Tony Hinchcliffe at Madison Square Garden and raise you Michelle Obama in Kalamazoo. Because while it’s a stupid idea to take a chance at offending Puerto Ricans, it’s an even dumber idea to outright offend the male population of this country. And that’s exactly what Michelle did in Michigan on Saturday. Here’s a clip, in case you haven’t seen it. This might be the least charismatic political speech, with the possible exception of the ones Hillary Clinton has given over the past 20 years, of all time. America “isn’t ready” to elect a candidate who slept her way to the middle and DEI’ed her way to the top, because America has identity-politics hangups. Obama said that “Kamala Harris is an extraordinary human being, she is an extraordinary candidate, and she will be an extraordinary president of the United States of America.” No one believes this. Kamala Harris put parents in jail because their kids were truant from school. A couple of those parents were put in jail because of paperwork errors by the school districts that failed to take account of their kids being hospitalized. Harris boasted that she drafted prosecutors who normally worked homicide cases to jail the parents of kids who played hooky. And she said it needed to be done because the school districts were losing money. But if any of those parents decided they wanted a sex change, Harris would have made sure to give them one at taxpayer expense. She’s a catastrophically awful vice president. As a senator, she had the most radical left voting record, bar none. Worse even than Bernie Sanders. Her signature moment as a senator was when she asked Brett Kavanaugh if he could think of a law that dictated government management of the male body, which was a cutesy way of pushing far-left abortion narratives. Kavanaugh was taken aback by the question and missed the opportunity to end her by noting that the military draft is just such a law. Nothing about Kamala Harris is extraordinary, and Michelle Obama knows this. Yet Michelle Obama stumped for Harris by demanding that women lecture men about their vote, at a time when Kamala’s gender gap has become a chasm for the precise reason that voting for Kamala Harris is now a cultural signifier of a weak, beta male. Vote for Kamala so you can be just like her husband, Doug Emhoff, who slept with (and knocked up) the nanny and blew up his first marriage, and then allegedly slapped a subsequent girlfriend so hard he spun her around, in full view of the swells on the front steps of a Cannes hotel during a festival. Because Emhoff is “redefining masculinity,” of course. And Michelle Obama thinks this is extraordinary. She thinks women should demand that the men in their lives vote for it. When Racism, Revenge and Ruin came out last year and I was making the circuit of radio shows promoting the book, I got asked a lot — because the final chapter in the book talked about the possibility that Michelle would eventually be propped up as the candidate — about whether I thought that was a real possibility. The answer I gave was that it was unlikely we’d see it for two reasons: first, that she didn’t want the job, and second, that neither Barack Obama nor anybody else were capable of making her do something she didn’t want to do. What I didn’t get asked very often was whether Michelle would be any good as a candidate. A couple of times that question did get posed, and I acknowledged that lots of people were terrified at the prospect of Michelle heading the Democrats’ ticket, and I was terrified, as I wrote in the book, at the prospect of making her president. But at the same time, I said that Michelle Obama would neither run well nor wear well with the American public as a presidential candidate. And in Michigan on Saturday, we saw why. It doesn’t matter how much money or acclaim this country has thrown at that woman, and she has had more than anyone could ever imagine. Michelle Obama is still the same nasty, entitled, arrogant, and domineering harpy who said back in 2008 that her husband winning the Democrat primaries for president represented the first time she’d ever been proud of her country. She’s the same horrible human being who said this was a downright mean country. She’s the same woman who said this in 2012: “Barack Obama is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.” It’s a dozen years later and nothing has changed. This is still the same authoritarian wannabe tyrant who thinks a politician’s job is not to allow people to live their own lives. So it’s no surprise that Michelle Obama thinks it’s a good idea to tell women to berate the men in their lives about voting for Willie Brown’s mistress. If the Democrats had junked Joe Biden for Michelle Obama and America had heard three months of speeches like the one you just listened to, how successful do you think it would have ultimately been? Two words come to mind: Black Hillary. She never wanted the job. Which is a good thing, because ultimately she wasn’t going to get it anyway. Famous name or no, this isn’t sellable to the American public, and the suck-up interviews and Oprah specials and sycophantic coverage in Vogue and Cosmo would have generated the same chasm of a gender gap. Maybe — and we’ll find out in a week — this will become a problem for the entire Democrat Party. If it does, and the Democrats still think scowling shrews like Michelle Obama who aim to turn American politics into a macrocosm of the dysfunctional matriarchy of the inner-city ghetto are its future, we’ll be well on our way toward getting the condition for the gigantic political realignment we so desperately need. As the 2024 presidential election winds down to the finish, the political left in this country has fallen in love with the “F” word — fascism. You can hear it virtually every day on MSNBC and CNN. You can read it in virtually every political article in the Atlantic. Hillary Clinton has taken to the airwaves to pronounce Donald Trump a fascist, even likening the recent Trump rally in Madison Square Garden to the infamous American “Nazi” rally held in 1939. NBC News, NPR, ABC News, the New York Times, the Nation magazine, have run stories about former Trump administration officials who agree that Trump is a fascist. Unsurprisingly, Kamala Harris agrees that Trump is a fascist. Is it any wonder that ABC News released a poll a few days ago with the headline “Half of Americans see Donald Trump as a fascist.”  Trump, of course, was labeled a fascist back in 2016 by the likes of Robert Kagan, Brett Stephens, and others. Back then one of the great scholars of fascism, Michael Ledeen (who acknowledged he was no fan of Trump), put the lie to their claims. In 2016, Ledeen provided a brief lesson on historical fascism of the Mussolini/Hitler variety and concluded that calling Trump a fascist “distorts the history of the last century.” (Interestingly, in 2021, The socialist International Committee of the Fourth International called Ledeen one of Trump’s “fascist co-conspirators.”) The irony of the Trump as fascist claim is that the supposed would-be fascist dictator Trump was repeatedly investigated by the very government that he presided over for false claims that he colluded with Russia. Does anyone think that Mussolini or Hitler would have tolerated that? Newspapers and other media outlets led the charge that Trump colluded with Russia, but Trump the supposed fascist never tried to shut them down or put them out of business. All he did was call them the “fake news.” Contrast that to liberal hero Woodrow Wilson who not only sought to shut down newspapers that opposed his war policies, but also prosecuted political enemies and others who spoke out against his war policies. Even Andrew Morantz, no fan of Trump, wrote a few months ago in the New Yorker that Trump was not a fascist. (“Trump isn’t Hitler. Trump isn’t Mussolini.”) He quotes Yale University historian and law professor Samuel Moyn (also no fan of Trump) who wrote that some on the left find it convenient to “scapegoat Trump, as if he were an alien in our midst.” Morantz also notes that Corey Robin, a leftist Brooklyn College professor (are there any other kind?) has pointed out that Trump as president had his policy agendas thwarted time and again by Congress and sometimes the Supreme Court — fascists don’t tolerate such interference.  But reasoned historical analysis doesn’t fit well with the demands of politics. The word “fascist” is being used against Donald Trump (and some of his supporters) in an effort to persuade the American people that a vote for Trump is a vote for Hitler or Mussolini. It feeds into the “threat to democracy” claim that has already resulted in two assassination attempts against Trump. Throwing around the “F” word is a way to avoid discussing issues and policy differences. How ironic that many of the people who ubiquitously use the “F” word are the same voices that promoted endless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq without a congressional declaration of war as mandated by the Constitution; the same voices who assured us that the illegal immigrants who have been allowed to pour into our country during the past four years — even though the Constitution commands that the laws be faithfully executed — pose no threat to our country despite the tens of thousands who have serious criminal convictions and the many who have been charged with committing unspeakable crimes; the same voices who cheered as Democratic district attorneys and attorneys general brought criminal charges and civil lawsuits against Trump and several of his supporters; and the same people who tried to keep Trump off the ballot in several states so that voters could not exercise their democratic right to vote for him.
