Brian May says John Deacon still is involved in business decisions

The bassist and songwriter John Deacon joined Queen in 1971 and decided to leave the band in 1997. Since then he lives away from the spotlight. He never performed with the band again or recorded something on studio. But as Brian May said many times over the years and also in an new interview with Mojo, he is still involved in business decisions. Brian May says John Deacon still is involved in businaess decisions Queen released a new version of their debut album "Queen I", which was remixed and also has new demos and live tracks, which are part of a six-disc box set. About the reissue, the band's guitarist said: “It felt great! I’m not saying the original version was bad – it just wasn’t what we dreamed of. Freddie and John, too, were always conscious of this thing in our past which seemed like it couldn’t be fixed.” Then he was asked if the classic bassist John Deacon was still involved in decisions like this one. He said: “John still has a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ say. We get messages that he’s happy with what we’re doing, but he doesn’t want the stress of being involved creatively, and we respect that." "Freddie we can’t talk to, sadly. But the four of us worked as a team for so long that Roger and I have a pretty good idea what our fellow Queen members would be saying. This thing is longer that anybody’s marriage.” Brian May said. During the same conversation, the artist noted that nothing that he and Roger Taylor (Drummer) do with the band are for the money, it's because they like and want to keep the group's legacy alive. Deacon [embed width="600" height="300"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qezVS77ObKI&pp=ygUvd2h5IGpvaG4gZGVhY29uIGxlZnQgcXVlZW4gcm9jayBhbmQgcm9sbCBnYXJhZ2U%3D[/embed] May and Taylor tried to invite Deacon to join the group on stage many times during the past two decades. But he obviously refused the invitation. The musician lives a normal life and is the father of six children. He was spotted by paparazzi over the past years walking in the streets, going to the grocery store and buying newspapers. Since he retired he also Deacon never gave an interview. But when spotted by fans he stops and talks with them and gives autographs. The post Brian May says John Deacon still is involved in business decisions appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Stevie Nicks explains feud with Lindsey Buckingham

Fleetwood Mac was probably one of the bands that had one of the most troubled careers of all time in terms of the relationships between the band members. Many things happened over the decades, and the most recent event was in 2018 when the band's longtime guitarist and singer, Lindsey Buckingham, left the group. The main reason was a feud with his bandmate and ex-partner Stevie Nicks, who explained in an interview with Rolling Stone what happened and how it was when they met again at Christine McVie's memorial. Stevie Nicks explains feud with Lindsey Buckingham Christine threw down a hurricane on top of Nobu, which is where we had it. Almost blew the whole place away, honest to God. Tore down the entire deck that was all decorated and everything. So it was kind of crazy. We all felt like she was there, because it was really intense. The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes. I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances. She was then asked if she regretted that this didn't happen before "No, I think that all just happened the way it should have. It happened one night, not planned, at a MusiCares. I didn’t even tell anybody it had happened in my head until the whole ceremony was over. I took with me that night a song that I had done with LeAnn Rimes called 'Borrowed.' I took it with me to play for him because I thought we could do this song beautifully." "That’s when he wasn’t very nice to anybody; he wasn’t very nice to Harry Styles. I could hear my mom saying, 'Are you really going to spend the next 15 years of your life with this man?' I could hear my very pragmatic father. And by the way, my mom and dad liked Lindsey a lot — saying, 'It’s time for you guys to get a divorce.' Between those two, I said, 'I’m done.'" Stevie Nicks said. The final Fleetwood Mac shows happened in 2019 and the band had two new touring members: Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. Buckingham's most recent release is the album "Lindsey Buckingham" (2021) [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=selaVY2iYQ0&pp=ygUSbGluZHNleSBidWNraW5naGFt[/embed]The post Stevie Nicks explains feud with Lindsey Buckingham appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Alex said Roth left VH because Eddie was getting more attention

When Van Halen released one of their best-selling albums "1984" in 1984, they already were one of the biggest Hard Rock bands in the world. That record made them become even bigger with hits like "Jump", "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher". However, in the following year the band's vocalist David Lee Roth decided to leave his bandmates and pursue a solo career. As told by the band's co-founder and drummer Alex Van Halen in his new book called "Brothers", Roth decided to leave the band because he wasn't happy with all the attention Eddie was getting. Roth even asked Eddie to not play many guitar solos during the shows. Alex said Roth left VH because Eddie was getting more attention “He couldn’t handle the fact that Eddie was getting more attention than he was. He kept asking Eddie to play fewer guitar solos. Dave was convinced he was going to be a movie star.” Alex said that it was “the most disappointing thing I’d experienced in my life, the thing that seemed the most wasteful and unjust.” Alex Van Halen said Roth ruined Eddie’s tribute tour [embed width="600" height="400"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VREI1t4BN4o&feature=youtu.be[/embed] In an interview with Rolling Stone, Roth simply didn’t want to pay tribute to Eddie at the concerts at all. As a result, they had a disagreement, and the entire project was scrapped that day. When asked by the magazine about the situation, Roth declined to comment. Alex said their rehearsal began with two Roth band members serving as “seat fillers” and the idea would be to eventually bring in Joe Satriani and maybe the classic bassist Michael Anthony. After a conversation with Queen’s Brian May, about how the band works without Freddie Mercury but also paying tribute to him, Alex went to explain to Roth how they would pay tribute to Alex during the shows. In those early rehearsals, the drummer was feeling numbness, peripheral neuropathy, especially in his feet and he said he felt like it was an “omen from above”, which was warning him that the reunion shouldn’t happen. “The thing that broke the camel’s back, and I can be honest about this now was I said, ‘Dave, at some point, we have to have a very overt — not a bowing — but an acknowledgment of Ed in the gig. If you look at how Queen does it, they show old footage.’ And the moment I said we gotta acknowledge Ed, Dave fuckin’ popped a fuse.… The vitriol that came out was unbelievable.” According to Alex, Roth found the idea very offensive, for reasons he can’t comprehend. The post Alex said Roth left VH because Eddie was getting more attention appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The guitarist that Pete Townshend said was his biggest influence

The guitarist that Pete Townshend said was his biggest influence

The Who is one of the most important Rock and Roll bands of all time and certainly wouldn't have been the same with Pete Townshend. Besides being one of the co-founders and the guitarist, he also is the main songwriter and wrote most of the songs of the band. So he always was an integral part of their sound and really influenced countless bands which appeared since the 60s all over the world. Over the decades he talked about many guitar players who influenced him but there is one he really credited as his biggest influence. It is, obviously, a rhythm guitarist, since Townshend always played more as a rhythm guitar player. The guitarist that Pete Townshend said was his biggest influence It's not a secret that Pete's favorite band has always been The Rolling Stones and he praised the group many times, including the guitarist Keith Richards. Already in 1980, in an interview with Sound International, Townshend said that Richards was his biggest influence as a rhythm guitarist. "I think my biggest influence in that area was Keith Richards. And I still really like the way he plays but in that particular area I don’t think I’m topped. There’s nobody to touch me. What’s really strange is I don’t think there’s many people who have actually heard me play rhythm in the function of a rhythm guitar. That’s where I really get off very well." He continued: "I wouldn’t object at all to have a guitar player in The Who so that I could just concentrate on rhythm. Because I love it. It’s a physical thing, it’s like a dancing thing. There’s a strong syncopation element in it. There’s no guitar player that I’ve ever worked with that hasn’t said it - Jimi Hendrix, Stephen Stills, Eric. They’ve all said it was great to play with you." Townshend and Richards are good friends since the 60s. The Stones picked The Who's guitarist to induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame back in 1989. During his speech (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) the musician called them the "greatest". “Keith Richards once told me that I think too much. The truth is that I think that generally I talk too much. But I don’t think first. Faced with injecting the Rolling Stones this evening I realized that thinking is not going to help me very much.” “I can’t analyze what I feel about the Stones because I am a really absolute Stones fan, always have. Their early shows were just shocking. Absolutely riveting, stunning, moving and they changed my life completely. The Beatles were fun, no doubt about that. I’m talking about they’re live shows. I’m demeaning them in any way.” Pete Townshend continued: [embed width="600" height="300"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef9QnZVpVd8&pp=ygUOcm9sbGluZyBzdG9uZXM%3D[/embed] “The Stones were really what made me wake up. On the Beatles shows there were a lot of screaming girls and at The Stones were the first to have a screaming boy. The sheer force of the Stones on stage and that perfectly balanced audience: 1000 girls and me (laughs). It kind of singled them out.” “They are the only group that I’ve ever really been unashamed about idolizing. So much of what I am I got from you, The Stones and I had no idea most of it was already secondhand (Laughs). No more gags, the Stones are the greatest for me. They epitomize British Rock for me. Even though they are now my friends, I’m still a fan.” At another point of his speech, he also joked that The Stones ripped-off many R&B artists. Pete Townshend loves the Rolling Stones but Keith Richards is not a big fan of The Who. Talking with Rolling Stone in 2015, he called them a crazy band and said that the group’s vocalist Roger Daltrey was “all flash”.
