Apple seeds tvOS 18.1 and visionOS 2.1 RC ahead of official release

After a few weeks of testing, Apple is finally releasing the RC versions of tvOS 18.1 and visionOS 2.1. So far, it's unclear what are the changes the company is making to these software updates. Still, Apple has some announced features that have been delayed from the original releases of tvOS 18 and visionOS 2. For example, we expected tvOS 18.1 to add the following features: Robot vacuum cleaners are now compatible with the Home app, so they can participate in automation and scenes and can be activated by a user’s voice using Siri. Screen savers: Movies and TV screen savers are yet to be added; 21:9 support: When connecting your Apple TV to a projector, Apple will give you the option to watch content in this frame. visionOS 2 also lacks one important feature, and visionOS 2.1 RC could add them: Mac Virtual Display: It will feature a higher resolution and larger size, creating an ultra-wide display equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.  Image source: Apple Inc. In addition, a rumor expects Apple to add Apple Intelligence to Apple Vision Pro in 2025. With that, Apple’s spatial computer would be part of this AI platform, along with the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Cupertino could potentially be waiting for Apple Intelligence to launch and get its best features before expanding to another software. At this moment, we don't know if the RC versions of tvOS 18.1 and visionOS 2.1 add any changes. Last Friday, Apple released another beta of visionOS before the RC on Monday. If Apple adds new features to tvOS 18.1 or visionOS 2.1 in RC, we’ll make sure to update this article with the latest features. With these system major updates just released to all users, we can’t wait to see what else Apple has in store for them. watchOS 11.1 RC now available with sleep apnea detection

A few weeks after Apple started testing watchOS 11.1, the company is now seeding watchOS 11.1 RC. During most of the beta cycle, it was unclear what Apple was adding to the system. However, late in the development, the company added sleep apnea detection for the newest Apple Watch models. This feature has been announced during the iPhone 16 event. Apple explained during the keynote that sleep apnea is a potentially serious condition where breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. “The condition, which is estimated to impact more than 1 billion people worldwide, goes undiagnosed in most cases. If left untreated, sleep apnea can have important consequences on health, including an increased risk of hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and cardiac issues.” To detect sleep apnea, Apple Watch uses the accelerometer to monitor small movements at the wrist that are associated with interruptions in normal respiratory patterns, tracked by a new Apple Watch metric called Breathing Disturbances. While some of these disturbances are normal, they are important to track as they can be used to help understand restfulness of sleep and, when occurring frequently over multiple nights, may be associated with sleep apnea. Users can view their nightly Breathing Disturbances in the Health app, where they are classified as elevated or not elevated and can be viewed over a one-month, six-month, or one-year period. WatchOS 11.1 RC brings the new sleep apnea algorithm, which analyzes breathing disturbance data, so Apple Watch can notify a user if the data indicates consistent signs of sleep apnea. The notification will include the time period when potential sleep apnea occurred and educational materials on the importance of seeking treatment. It will also include a PDF providing three months of breathing disturbance data, notification details, and additional information to reference during a conversation with a healthcare provider. Apple says the sleep apnea notification algorithm was developed using advanced machine learning and an extensive data set of clinical-grade sleep apnea tests. In addition to watchOS 11.1 RC, the company is also seeding the Release Candidate versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, macOS 15.1, tvOS 18.1, and visionOS 2.1. iPhone 16 Pro users are complaining about a major bug that Apple has no plan to fix

Every new iPhone model seems to suffer from at least a few major bugs. Last year, iPhone 15 Pro owners complained about the iPhone overheating. While Apple said it was due to unoptimized apps, tests showed that the A17 Pro chip was also more likely to overheat than other chips. This time, iPhone 16 Pro users are complaining about a bug that causes their phones to randomly freeze and restart. As first spotted by MacRumors, people are complaining on Reddit and Apple Support Community forums. It's unclear why this issue happens, but users report that their iPhones unexpectedly freeze and then reboot. More impressively, this bug has been haunting iPhone 16 Pro users since its release a month ago. Even with iOS 18.0.1 and the latest iOS 18.1 beta version don't fix this bug. Some iPhone 16 Pro users say they have this issue when in StandBy mode. However, most people complain that it's random. Eventually, the display will stop responding or be almost unresponsive, and then the iPhone will quickly restart. In one of the longest threads on Reddit, the first iPhone user to report the issue wrote: My iPhone 16 pro has crashed and restarted at least 5 times in the last hour :( it’s also a little bit slow in some scrolling , all I was doing was looking for wallpapers and trying to change my icons and it started after I tried changing the tint on the icons, when it would just freeze and turn off :( now it’s been freezing when I tried deleting an app or even turning off low power mode. Is anybody experiencing this too ?:/ People continue to complain that this software issue is haunting them. While rebooting or factory resetting the iPhone seems to improve the situation for a while, this bug makes a comeback. Despite this iPhone 16 Pro bug, BGR reported several other problems iPhone users have with this new generation. You can learn more about them below. Lost Medieval Jewish Cemetery Found Under London’s Barbican Estates

A hidden medieval Jewish cemetery, once believed to be lost, has been rediscovered beneath the Barbican Estates in London, close to the remnants of an ancient wall within the Thomas More Garden. The Barbican cemetery and surrounding buildings had been destroyed by the Nazis during World War II, and when the Barbican residential complex was built starting in the 1960s it was constructed directly over where the cemetery had once stood.  The burial ground has been dated back (1066-1157) to the early Norman period, making it the first Jewish cemetery in England. It remained in use until the expulsion of Jews from England in 1290, after which the site was desecrated and fell into neglect. The Jewish Square Mile Project: A Cultural Revival The project to rediscover the cemetery was spearheaded by the Jewish Square Mile project, a volunteer group founded by Howard and Gaby Morris, reports The Metro UK. After hearing long-standing rumors of the cemetery, the couple dedicated themselves to finding it. They were drawn to the stories shared by Father Jack Noble of St Giles Cripplegate, an ancient church within the Barbican, who gathered a group of Jewish residents to investigate whether the burial ground existed and, if so, to find its exact location. Inside Melissa Gilbert’s War Against ‘Little House’ Events Promoter

Melissa Gilbert and her Little House on the Prairie co-stars, Alison Arngrim, Karen Grassle, Dean Butler, Charlotte Stewart, and Matthew Labyorteaux, pulled out of a lineup of the show’s anniversary events due to poor planning from the organizers. Melissa, who played Laura Ingalls Wilder in the nine-season show, is out for war against the fraudulent promoter who keeps pushing the canceled Little House events. The organizer, Jack Bishop, and his company, Gravel Road Markets LLC, have received several warnings from the cast to desist from promoting the events but have yet to adhere. Melissa Gilbert calls out Jack Bishop Little On The Prairie cast/ Everett Jack went as far as telling fans that Melissa was a co-producer of the Little House tour, despite her efforts to have the information taken down. She noted that people were buying tickets to see her, not knowing she had opted out of the events, which is why she has taken to social media to debunk the false information. Customers have also complained about Gravel Road Market LLC, admitting that they have a reputation for creating low-quality events where food runs out, vendors get owed their wages, and Jack continues selling tickets even after full capacity. Melissa Gilbert/Instagram The Little House cast has taken responsibility for fans’ troubles, sending out apologies and statements to affected attendees. Some have responded on social media, calling out Jack and his company and even offering to organize another for the disappointed castmates. “I’d do it justice and do you proud,” someone assured Melissa. Little On The Prairie cast/ Everett Another recalled attempting to get tickets, adding that it was a blessing in disguise that she could not. “We all know how much the cast members love the fans; it seems they were dissatisfied with how the events played out and want better for those in attendance. It’s very considerate of them,” a third fan quipped in defense of Melissa and her costars. One Of Last-Surviving Navajo Code Talkers From World War II Dies At 107

John Kinsel Sr., one of the last Navajo Code Talkers who relayed crucial messages using the Navajo language during World War II, has passed away at the age of 107. Navajo Nation leaders in Window Rock confirmed Kinsel’s death on Saturday. In his honor, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren has ordered flags across the reservation to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Oct. 27. John Kinsel Sr. was one of the Navajo Code Talkers alive John Kinsel Sr. / YouTube Screenshot “Mr. Kinsel served as a Marine with courage and dedication, facing immense danger as a Navajo Code Talker for the safety and freedom of all,” Nygren said in a statement on Sunday. With Kinsel’s passing, only two Navajo Code Talkers remain: Former Navajo Chairman Peter MacDonald and Thomas H. Begay. During the war, the Marines enlisted hundreds of Navajos to serve as Code Talkers, using their then-unwritten language to transmit vital military communications. John Kinsel Sr. / YouTube Screenshot The Navajo Code Talkers baffled Japanese military cryptologists during World War II and took part in every major Marine assault in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945, including battles at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, and Iwo Jima. They transmitted thousands of flawless messages about Japanese troop movements, battlefield strategies, and other vital communications, playing a crucial role in the war’s final victory. Shirley MacLaine Reveals Advice She Gave To Elvis Presley And How She Hit On Morgan Freeman

In her new book, Shirley MacLaine wrote about her encounter with the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, and how she once hit on an unimpressed Morgan Freeman. She documented her interesting career run during her prime, working with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. She also wrote about her friendships with industry ladies, such as Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor, in The Wall of Life: Pictures and Stories from This Marvelous Lifetime, which Crown Publishing will release on October 22. Shirley MacLaine’s advice to Elvis Presley G.I. BLUES, from left: Shirley MacLaine visits Elvis Presley on set, 1960 Shirley and Elvis once worked with Paramount at the same time, and she recalled giving him some words to ponder after noticing his behavior on set. Regardless of this interaction, and despite Elvis being only a few doors away, Shirley claimed she never got any closer or more curious. Shirley simply told Elvis, who was already world-famous, to be kinder and nicer to people. Although the general assumption is that Elvis was a kind and charming personality, there have been allegations of bad behavior such as verbal abuse, and picking an interest in younger girls. ALL IN A NIGHT’S WORK, from left: Dean Martin celebrates his birthday with help from Shirley MacLaine and visitor Elvis Presley, on set, 1961 /Everett Shirley MacLaine’s failed attempt at wooing Morgan Freeman Morgan Freeman blew away Shirley from their very first meeting and was quite impressed by his acting; however, he simply shook his head and remained unbothered after Shirley tried to light a spark between them both. 57 SECONDS, Morgan Freeman, 2023 / Everett While she was unsuccessful at her attempt with Freeman, Shirley made new associations with Jack Nicholson and Jack Lemmon, although she did not date either of them. Shirley noted that Nicholson made her laugh way too much to be her type romantically, while Lemmon was more like a sister to her.
