Old Incubators Help Save Orphaned Kangaroos by Imitating Their Mother’s Pouch

When an Australian nurse working at a hospital with outdated incubators happened upon a kangaroo rescue center, she realized she could help save lives. Once used to help save premature human babies, the incubators are now mimicking the conditions of a mother kangaroo’s pouch, where her joey will live for the first 8 months of […] The post Old Incubators Help Save Orphaned Kangaroos by Imitating Their Mother’s Pouch appeared first on Good News Network.

Is America Undergoing a Quiet Coup, Courtesy of Wall Street?

Editor’s note: This is a lightly edited transcript of the accompanying video from professor Peter St. Onge. In the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, the then-chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, Simon Johnson, warned that the same dysfunctional policies he saw in basket case banana republics had taken hold in the United States. He warned that if we didn’t act fast, we would plunge into a “quiet coup” as the American financial system effectively captures the government, bailing itself out until we run out of money. Well, we didn’t act fast. In fact, it got worse. And here we are. In recent videos, I’ve talked about the trillion dollars of distress in the financial system, the common thread being that you, the taxpayer, will be bailing them all out. We saw this in the 2023 bank bailouts, prepaid in the dark. Of course, given our $35 trillion national debt, we can’t afford it. But pay it we will. At some point, it gets too big to bail out. Meaning, either hard default—they stop paying interest. Or soft default of permanent inflation. So, first, that ignored warning. I’m no fan of the IMF, but one thing the IMF does know isdysfunctional governments. In his warning, Johnson detailed the typical pattern when countries collapse. So, first, a small group of powerful elites takes over policy. This is typically financial elite, or large companies when the country has them. Because these elites know they’ll be bailed out, they take excessive risks. An iron law of finance is that more risk pays more reward. If taxpayers are paying, you dial it to 11. If every hand at the poker game is all-in, inevitably you lose. You pass your losses to the taxpayer, and start over with fresh chips, courtesy of the suckers. Johnson lays out his numbers: From 1973 to 1985, America’s financial sector never earned more than 16% of domestic corporate product. But by the early 2000s, it was earning 41%. It turned a chunk of these profits into lobbying, repealing Depression-era prudential regulations separating banking and investment banking. In other words, freeing banks to gamble with taxpayer-guaranteed funds. Then it lobbied to raise leverage—meaning, how much banks could borrow. So, they could make bigger —again, all taxpayer-guaranteed. The end result was the 2008 crisis, where banks made trillions in risky loans to people with no income, no assets, and no credit. The leverage meant they had bet the farm and then some—keeping all the profits. Then, when it turned south, they sicced lobbyists on Washington to line up bailouts, using voters’ jobs as the hostage. To be fair, it wasn’t all take: They did give back—giving politicians and their staff plum positions or even outright bribes. Then-Fed chief Ben Bernanke got $250,000 for a single speech, and Janet Yellen, now the Treasury secretary, made more than $7 million in speaking fees from the very banks she regulated. Johnson sums it up this way: The American financial system is “desperately ill,” kept alive only by corrupt bailouts, like last year’s. He says the only solution is forced recognition of bank losses—which would bankrupt them—and then selling what’s left to new management that will not have access to bailouts. So, what’s next? Given the corruption, the odds of breaking up America’s megabanks are slim to none. Meaning, unless Washington repents, we’re in store for more existential financial crises, more bailouts and national debt, more running out the clock to financial catastrophe. We missed our chance in 2008, and it will take an even bigger crisis to fix it. Read the rest of the story with charts and all the gory details at Profstonge Weekly | Peter St Onge | Substack Editor’s note: This is a lightly edited transcript of the accompanying video from professor Peter St. Onge. Dog Dumped Over A Fence At An Animal Shelter Finds Forever Home

A dog that was previously caught on camera being dumped over a fence by a man at the Humane Society of Atlantic County finally gets to go to her forever home. On July 18, the animal shelter posted a video on their Facebook page showing a man throwing his dog over the fence and proceeding to walk away from the shelter’s fence. “This is the 4th dog dumped over our fence by this individual in the middle of the night,” the Humane Society of Atlantic County wrote. The animal shelter had asked the public for help in identifying the man and described him as someone who drives a black Cadillac sedan. On the other hand, not much is known about the pup, previously named Brenda and now named Snookie, who was a young Pit Bull with two big, distinct scarring on her back. While the animal shelter is still looking for the man, things got a lot better for Snookie after the animal shelter shared a “heartwarming update” about her on July 29. The animal shelter revealed that Snookie’s new family flew in from Texas just to adopt the sweet girl. They wrote that the family “fell in love with her at first sight” when they saw the pooch. “Safe travels, Brenda, you deserve all the love in the world!” the animal shelter wrote. In a new post on September 20, the Humane Society of Atlantic County shared an update on Snookie’s life. The update came with a video of Snookie playing with one of her brothers in their backyard in Texas that has a pool specially made for dogs. “Remember the dog that was thrown over the fence? Here she is, now named Snookie, with one of her two new brothers,” the animal shelter wrote. “We are thrilled that Snookie has such an amazing life and loving family now.” Users who followed Snookie’s story can’t help but congratulate the pooch on the new life she’s living. One user wrote, “That’s a happy ending for sure. So excited for the pup.” While another wrote, “This makes my heart happy! Happy Life Snookie! You deserve this.” Others didn’t forget to thank the shelter for helping Snookie find her happily ever after. “Thank you for the incredible work you do every day! Your entire staff is phenomenal!” a user wrote.

USAF ‘Whistleblower’ Claims Staged Alien Invasion is Imminent

Charles McNeal, who is allegedly a former US Air Force intelligence insider, asserts that he was once recruited into a secretive unit responsible for maintaining a 70-year truce between the U.S. government and an alien civilization. He claims that this truce is about to collapse, which, according to him, will trigger a series of “dramatic events.” These events supposedly include a global conflict and a “staged alien invasion” using “reverse-engineered UFO technology.” McNeal also alleges that for decades, there has been a deliberate effort to ease humanity into accepting the reality of extraterrestrial life through films, books, and television shows about alien invasions and science-fiction scenarios. “This is known as the Public Acclimation Program,” McNeal explained. “For decades, you’ve been spoon-fed fictionalized versions of the truth through TV, movies, and books.” He has even provided a description of the different alien races he claims will invade Earth. “Type A-C have a grey or greyish pigmentation that can come off a bit chalky sometimes. They have four fingers with little suction cups on the ends of each finger and some have webbing in between their fingers and toes. Type D have a brownish pigmentation and five fingers and five toes,” he said. McNeal claims this species began as fully biological beings but encountered a force they now worship, known as “The Keeper.” Over thousands of years, they started integrating technology into their bodies. “This species started off fully biological until they ventured out into the cosmos and came into contact with what they now answer to, something called ‘The Keeper’. They now worship technology and started to incorporate mechanics into their biological makeup thousands of years ago.” While these claims are certainly intriguing, it would be wise to approach them with considerable skepticism. Microsoft’s Grounded ditches third-party Steam demands as PSN backlash rages

You no longer need to link a Microsoft and Steam account to play Grounded's multiplayer on Valve's platform. If you've already linked these accounts to play the game, you can now delink them and choose to just play with others on Steam instead. While features like crossplay still require both accounts to be linked, Microsoft's decision to give players the choice comes in stark contrast to PlayStation's Steam strategy. This comes as games like Helldivers 2 and God of War Ragnarok have come under fire this year for their PSN links, with only the former removing the requirement.
