President-elect Donald Trump announced that John Ratcliffe, his final director of national intelligence (DNI), is his choice to lead the Central Intelligence Agency in his second administration. John Ratcliffe at CIA.That’s a W for Trump’s team. Ratcliffe was probably the most aligned of the intel agency appointments from the last admin. pic.twitter.com/i0LL4EVow1— Bradley Devlin (@bradleydevlin) November 12, 2024 Ratcliffe, formerly a congressman for Texas, was initially tapped for DNI in 2019, but stepped back from the nomination after facing an uphill confirmation battle. He was nominated again in 2020 and served for the final seven months of the first Trump term. As highlighted in Trump’s announcement, Ratcliffe has been one of the president’s strongest backers, as well as an advocate for a more transparent national security apparatus. Trump Selects Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense

Donald Trump announced his nomination of Pete Hegseth to be secretary of defense Tuesday night. Hegseth, a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, served in Iraq and Afghanistan as an officer in the Army National Guard, during which time he was twice awarded the Bronze Star. After finishing his military service, he served as the executive director of Vets for Freedom and Concerned Veterans of America. Hegseth is currently a contributor and host for Fox News. During the first Trump administration, Hegseth was considered for the leadership of the Department of Veterans Affairs, although he was not chosen for the position. Hegseth has argued for a more restrained use of American military force. Citing his own service as a National Guard, he has endorsed state-level “Defend the Guard” Acts which prevent the federal government from deploying state National Guard units overseas unless Congress has officially issued a declaration of war. Paul Dianno’s death cause is revealed

The former Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno passed away last October at the age of 66 in Salisbury, England. Now, with the permission of his family, the cause of his death was revealed. According to an official statement, he died because "he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop." Read the entire statement about Paul Di'Anno's death cause: "Dear fans and friends. We have received permission from Paul's family to bring you the news of Paul's cause of death, after the results of the autopsy have been received. His sisters Cheryl and Michelle confirmed the following: 'Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop.' Paul's death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. May he rest in peace. This weekend, an In Memoriam show was held at Underworld Camden, where many of Paul's fans, friends, colleagues and family members came. With a magnificent musical set, his musical colleagues said a worthy farewell to their friend," the statement said. Tom Morello advocates for Iron Maiden in the Hall of Fame

The Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello is now an active member of the organization's nominating committee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In an interview with Eddie Trunk he talked about older praised bands who were not inducted yet and he said he will do everything he can to get Iron Maiden into the Hall. He said that they are one of the most important Metal bands of all time and that they should have been there for a long time already. Tom Morello advocates for Iron Maiden in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame “My argument was this (With Rock Hall executive Jon Landau). If you're a little league player, your dream as a young baseball player is to have such a career that you would end up in the baseball hall of fame. I said, ‘A lot of young rock and roll guitar players have no respect for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. None of their favorite bands are in it." "(It should be) a place that everyone who loves rock and roll aspires to be in because their heroes are there. And you don't have that right now. To his credit, he put me in the room (to help).” He was a fundamental help for the induction of bands like Judas Priest,  Kiss, MC5 and the guitarist Randy Rhoads. During the conversation he also said that he will do everything he can to get Iron Maiden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I will chew my leg off like a coyote in a trap if I can't get Iron Maiden in. While there are many other deserving acts, Iron Maiden for me is the last most egregious oversight in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." "Iron Maiden is like the gold standard of metal bands and they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I know Bruce Dickinson said he doesn't really care. Well I care as a fan. I care very, very much about it. So I'm gonna do all I can to get, [with] whatever limited influence I have, to get Iron Maiden in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaZvjydrV_M&pp=ygUgc2hhcm9uIG9zYm91cm5lIGVnZ3MgaXJvbiBtYWlkZW4%3D[/embed]The post Tom Morello advocates for Iron Maiden in the Hall of Fame appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Cover of “Maybe This Christmas” featuring Stevie Nicks is released

The Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks released a new single "Maybe This Christmas", which is a cover of the song written by Ron Sexmith and released in 2002. The new version was recorded with Jason Kelce, who curiously is the brother of Taylor Swift's boyfriend Travis. The Stevie Nicks/Jason Kelce version is part of the "A Philly Special Christmas Party", which is an upcoming album by the Philly Specials, which is a vocal trio formed by Kelce and two current members of Kelce's old team. They are the Philadelphia Eagles offensive linemen: Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. Roger Daltrey announces 2025 tour dates

The Who guitarist and main songwriter Pete Townshend said recently that the band will be active in 2025 but while they don't announce any live shows, the group's vocalist Roger Daltrey already revealed his first solo shows for next year. He announced shows next April and May in the United Kingdom. The concerts will happen in Brighton Dome, London, Southend-On-Sea, University of Wolverhampton, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gateshead and Manchester. Like his previous tours, the musician will probably compose a setlist with solo career songs, The Who songs and even a few covers. During his shows in the United States in 2024, for example, he even covered Creedence Clearwater Revival. Roger Daltrey announces 2025 tour dates April 20 - Brighton Dome 21 - London - The Palladium 23 - Southend-on-Sea - The Cliffs Pavilion 24 - University of Wolverhampton at The Halls 26 - Dundee - Caird Hall 28 - Glasgow - SEC Armadillo 30 - Edinburgh - The Usher Hall May May 01 - Gateshead - The Glasshouse - Sage 1 May 04 - Manchester - Bridgewater Hall As he told Billboard in 2024, he believes that the internet ruined live concerts because there are no surprises anymore. He said that people search and watch videos of the shows and see the setlist before they go see a band. “I’m not gonna talk about songs. Too many people reveal songs. There’s no surprises left with concerts these days, ’cause everybody wants to see the setlist. I’m f–king sick of it. The Internet ruined the live shows for me. Who wants to know what’s coming next? People forget about surprises. I can’t stand it,” Roger Daltrey said. During the same conversation, he also said that now at the age of 80, he won’t scream in the middle of “Won’t Get Fooled Again” anymore. Instead, he will make the audience do that scream, so he can focus on singing. Ian Anderson’s opinion on Genesis

Ian Anderson’s opinion on Genesis

One of the most influential Progressive Rock musicians of all time, Ian Anderson was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England back in 1947 and started his musical career in 1962. Five years later he would co-found the band Jethro Tull, which became one of the best-selling of the music genre. He is the only member of the group who was part of all their releases during the past five decades. So he had the chance to see many other incredible bands playing over the years. He gave his opinion on some of them, including Genesis. Which is the influential group famous for having names like Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. What is Ian Anderson's opinion on Genesis Although Jethro Tull and Genesis were part of the same music genre, at least during the Peter Gabriel years, Ian Anderson was never a big fan of them. But the musician recognized their importance and told Vintage Rock in 2002 that they are part of the "Big Four" of Progressive Rock, in his opinion. In an interview with Oswaldo Marques from Stay Rock Brazil in 2021 he said: “I was never a fan of Genesis. But their musicianship is amazing”. One of the things that didn't make him like Genesis that much is that the group, at the time led by Peter Gabriel, used to take Prog Rock music too far. For Ian, as he told Live Music News & Review in 2019, they were "becoming rather self-indulgent." “That was 1972 that is where I guess I was getting those notions from, to be A, surreal, and B, beyond reality and to parody and send up certain institutions of Britishness. In doing so, under the umbrella of prog rock. I was in a way sending up the whole notion of the concept album and prog rock as it had become known in that period of time. Having started off in 1969 with the more gentle sound of progressive rock.” He continued: “Once it became prog, there was an element of send up and perhaps certain bands. Perhaps Yes or ELP and Genesis having taken it to a bit of an extreme. Where it was becoming rather self-indulgent. Musically great but self-indulgent and perhaps pompously setting themselves apart from rank and file musicians. Like the rest of us who were still learning to play our instruments,” Ian Anderson said. Just like Jethro Tull, Genesis was also formed in 1967. During their career, the group released 7 studio albums with Peter Gabriel on vocals. Then from 1976 to 1991 teh band had Phil Collins as the vocalist. Their final album "Calling All Stations" was released in 1997 with Ray Wilson as the singer. But obviously, what really made them one of the best-selling bands of the history of music was the years with Phil Collins. It was when the band adopted a more commercial sound. Ian Anderson felt Genesis and other bands were doing arrogant and overblown music [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oPA8JUttCw&pp=ygUkZ2VuZXNpcyBzZWxsaW5nIGVuZ2xhbmQgYnkgdGhlIHBvdW5k[/embed] In the mid-70s many Progressive Rock groups were already quite famous. They were pushing the music genre a little bit further, making more complex and long tracks. That was something that bothered Ian Anderson who felt they were making "arrogant" and "overblown" music. He explained that in an interview with Jim Rowland in 2012. "Well yes, you’re paraphrasing, not entirely incorrectly, what I thought at the time. ‘Aqualung’ was perceived by the critics, rather than the audience, as a concept album. It gave them something to write about. There were two or three songs on there that were connected in some way. But there were a whole bunch of songs on there that had nothing to do with the other songs." "So I don’t think it’s really fair to call it a concept album. But the term 'Progressive Rock' I never had any problem with. I was more than happy to be thought of as a progressive rock musician that was fine. It was just later when the word ‘prog’ had rather dark overtones of bombastic, pompous, arrogant, overblown, selfish music. That was the spaghetti noodling of some of our peer groups like Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Genesis who tended to drone on a bit, and at that point we didn’t," Ian Anderson said. The musical direction those Progressive Rock bands adopted was a big inspiration for Punk Rock groups at the time. They felt that Rock music was losing its soul, as the songs had become very complex, long, and played by highly trained musicians. One of Punk's main ideas was to bring Rock back to its basics. The post Ian Anderson’s opinion on Genesis appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
