The Verge’s guide to Black Friday 2024

Image: Cath Virginia / The Verge These days, Black Friday isn’t so much a single-day shopping holiday as it is an ever-expanding, monthslong event that often begins as early as October. The 24-hour deal blitz that once was the focus of newspaper headlines and mobs outside of stores is no more, which makes knowing when and where you should be spending your cash all the more confusing. Luckily, we’re here to help. Over the next month or so, we’ll be poring through scores of presale spreadsheets and thousands upon thousands of deals to separate the real discounts from the unexciting, made-up bargains every retailer seems to hawk around the holidays. We’ll have tips on how to find the best deals and when to shop, and we’ll continue to flag the most compelling sales in the... Continue reading…

Here’s the first 240W USB-PD charger you can actually buy

Photo by Vlad Savov / The Verge You can now buy a USB-C charger that finally hits the promised power spec for beefy laptops at a max rate of 240W. You probably do not need this charger, and you may not have a device that even supports its peak power, but it’s here now if you want one to future-proof your office setup. Delta Electronics’ ADP-240KB charger is an AC power supply that supports the maximum charge speeds possible on the USB-C Power Delivery (USB-PD) standard. It’s available from US component distributor Mouser Electronics for $126.37 plus shipping, or slightly less if you want at least 10. It’s advertised as a desktop AC adapter and comes as a dull black brick with a standardized three-prong AC in port (the AC cable is not included). Image:... Continue reading…

This is one way Apple might make the next Vision Pro cheaper

This is one way Apple might make the next Vision Pro cheaper

Reports say that Apple wants to make a cheaper version of the Vision Pro spatial computer. Now, a new story from Korea details the kind of compromise Apple might be looking into as it tries to cut costs. Apple is reportedly interested in new OLED panels that could be brighter than the current model. However, these displays would have a lower resolution than the screens Apple uses for the first-gen Vision Pro. The Vision Pro's crisp display is one of the product's highlights since it's responsible for the incredible images it can produce. If you've tried the Vision Pro during a demo session in an Apple Store, you've experienced its astonishing immersiveness. The screen is also responsible for that great passthrough video and AR spatial computing. That's all possible because of Sony's OLEDoS panels, which feature a resolution of 3,391 pixel-per-inch (PPI), higher than any other screen you might experience. Apple is now looking to lower the resolution to 1,500 PPI, or less than half the resolution of the first-gen Vision Pro. The cheaper spatial computer would still feature a crisp display, albeit less sharp than the more expensive model. Continue reading... New Evidence Ancient City of Tetelihtic in Mexico Was Founded by the Totonac People

A team of archaeologists affiliated with Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) have unearthed evidence that reveals important information about the ancient Mesoamerican city of Tetelihtic, found in the municipality of Teteles de Avila Castillo in the Mexican state of Puebla in the southeastern part of the country. Based on what the INAH team has found, they now believe that Tetelihtic was actually founded by the Totonacs, a once-powerful Mesoamerican people who built a thriving confederation of cities in the lands of east central Mexico during the Classical Period (200 to 00 AD). Some archaeologists and scholars of ancient history believe that the Totonac people were the real founders of the legendary Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan as well, and the Totonacs themselves have preserved legends that suggest this is the case. REPORT: 15 million Biden voters tragically died again before they could vote for Kamala Harris

Washington, D.C. — In an unexpected turn of events, the Harris campaign was dealt a heavy blow today as it was reported that 15 million dedicated Biden voters, once believed lost only to miraculously “reappear” in 2020, tragically passed away just before they could cast ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris. Campaign insiders are already mourning the loss of the dearly departed, whose unwavering support for the Democratic ticket had become the stuff of legends. “They were loyal voters, through life, death, and even post-life,” said one Harris campaign spokesperson tearfully. “To lose them again, in an election year? It’s devastating.” Experts believe that the 15 million Biden voters succumbed to a mysterious ailment known as terminal ballotitis, which is said to strike shortly before every election cycle. The Harris campaign, however, remains determined to honor their loyal posthumous supporters. “We’re not giving up,” said Harris’s press secretary. “If our voters are willing to die twice for us, the least we can do is ensure their voices are heard… again.” Questions linger about how the sudden passing of these voters may impact Harris’s prospects in key swing states. Data analysts have noted an uptick in demand for “proxy voting” and “spiritual outreach coordinators,” who can help deceased voters find alternate means of casting ballots from beyond the grave. Local authorities in certain states are already considering new “in-memoriam absentee ballots” to maintain the tradition. Fox News’s Tucker Carlson weighed in, saying, “We’ll have to see how many times they can possibly rise to the occasion. Perhaps they’ll vote again in the next election, and maybe a third time. We all know they’re passionate.” Meanwhile, Democratic strategists are reportedly reworking campaign materials to include the slogan “Vote Now, Vote Often, Vote Forever!” In the meantime, Harris has pledged to do everything she can to preserve the memory of these legendary voters. Rumors are swirling that a commemorative monument may be built, where volunteers will continually tally imaginary ballots in their honor. FLASH FLOOD WARNING in Several U.S. Cities Due to Liberal Tears Following Trump Victory

FLASH FLOOD WARNING in Several U.S. Cities Due to Liberal Tears Following Trump Victory

(New York, NY) — The National Weather Service has issued an urgent flash flood warning as record-breaking liberal tears inundate streets, homes, and entire city blocks in the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election victory. According to forecasters, the “great deluge” began shortly after polls closed, and officials warn that the emotional downpour may continue for weeks. “We’ve never seen anything quite like it,” said a spokesperson for the National Weather Service. “The volume of tears is surpassing previous records set by prior unexpected election results.” A River Runs Through It With floodwaters rising faster than ever, some areas have even resorted to sandbagging streets against the influx of weeping from major liberal strongholds like Portland, San Francisco, and Manhattan. Waterlogged city officials are urging residents to steer clear of viral social media posts on the topic to prevent further emotional outpourings. Blame the “Tearpocalypse” Psychologists speculate the mass “tear-pocalypse” could have an extended timeline, with more waves of emotional flooding expected as Twitter and TikTok posts multiply. “People are bracing for additional floods with each trending post,” said Dr. Alana Feelsman. “We recommend high boots and a snorkel for anyone commuting in the coming days,” added local meteorologist Rick Watershed. “And don’t forget an umbrella — the forecast calls for an 80% chance of liberal tears, with sob showers expected until at least Inauguration Day.” The post FLASH FLOOD WARNING in Several U.S. Cities Due to Liberal Tears Following Trump Victory appeared first on Genesius Times.
