Feds Continue to Let China Buy up Land Near US Military Installations

Chinese companies and Chinese nationals have been buying farmland across the United States, disproportionately located in the vicinity of major military installations. This includes land located near Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina (formerly Fort Bragg). The New York Post, in an article analyzing the security threat posed by these purchases, noted that Fort Liberty is “surrounded by Chinese-owned farmland within a 30-mile radius.”  Fort Liberty is the largest military base in the United States in terms of personnel and is home to several U.S. Airborne and special operations units, including the storied 82nd Airborne Division. The base also contains two major airfields that are used for global airlift operations and would be central for coordinating the deployment of troops in a potential major conflict. Fort Liberty is also home to U.S. Army Special Operations Command and Army Reserve Command, among others.   Despite the sensitive nature of Fort Liberty, the U.S. government has stood by while companies from the People’s Republic of China have purchased large tracts of land in the base’s immediate vicinity. Chinese ownership of U.S. land has increased by 550% over the past decade, with China having owned no land at all in North Carolina before 2010.   Today, Chinese companies own nearly 50,000 acres of farmland in North Carolina across 28 of the state’s 100 counties. In fact, North Carolina accounts for 13% of Chinese-owned farmland in the United States. Much of this farmland is located near Fort Liberty.   The presence of this PRC-owned land near Fort Liberty poses a national security risk. The New York Post noted that the land could be used by Chinese agents, under the cover of farming, to “set up reconnaissance [sites], install tracking technology, use radar and infra-red scanning to view bases or attempt to fly drones over them as ways to surveil military sites.”   Chinese agents could also watch for patterns in U.S. troop movements at the base, noting shifts in those movements to anticipate U.S. deployments or see how the U.S. would respond to major international incidents. These concerns about Chinese espionage are already borne out by real-world examples, as there have been many incidents in recent years of Chinese “tourists” entering restricted military sites and attempting to take pictures and videos.   Some counter that the farmland is owned by Chinese companies and not by the Chinese government itself and is therefore not a national security risk. This reasoning is severely flawed. China does not have independent private enterprise in the manner of Western free-market nations. Instead, the Chinese Communist government maintains influence over all companies headquartered in China, meaning that any investments by these companies has the tacit approval (or even guidance) of the government.   The United States cannot continue to ignore that Chinese entities are gaining ownership over land that is in prime position to be used for espionage against our military. The next administration must do more to ensure that Fort Liberty and other installations are protected from this sort of malign foreign influence, perhaps by prohibiting companies tied to the Chinese government from purchasing land within 100 miles of military facilities. The security of our men and women in uniform, of the communities around our military installations in places like Fayetteville, and of our nation as a whole must come first.   The post Feds Continue to Let China Buy up Land Near US Military Installations  appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Kamala repeats the line, says Trump 'suggested rifles should be trained on' Liz Cheney, calling her a 'true patriot'

Vice President Kamala Harris repeated a widely publicized claim that former President Donald Trump suggested "rifles should be trained on" Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney.Trump was speaking at an event with host Tucker Carlson when he suggested Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was hurting Harris' election campaign by endorsing her.'I have already asked my criminal division chief to start looking at that statement.'"She's a deranged person, but the reason she couldn't stand me is that she always wanted to go to war with people. I don't want to go to war," Trump said of Cheney."She's a radical war hawk," he continued. "Let's put her with a rifle, standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Okay? Let's see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face? You know they're all war hawks when they're sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, 'Oh, gee, well, let's send, 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.'"Despite Trump's remarks obviously pertaining to the flippant demands of war from politicians, the mainstream outlets held his feet over the fire for the metaphor. The next day while speaking to reporters in Madison, Wisconsin, Harris pushed claims that Trump was saying he wanted guns pointed at Cheney's face."[Trump] spends considerable amounts of time plotting his revenge on his political opponents," Harris began. "Even worse he has increased his violent rhetoric ... about politic opponents and in great detail suggested rifles should be trained on former Representative Liz Cheney.""This must be disqualifying," Harris said vehemently. "Anyone who wants to be president of the United States, who uses that kind of violent rhetoric, is clearly disqualified and unqualified.""Representative Cheney is a true patriot who has shown extraordinary courage in putting country above party," she added. — (@) Harris' rhetoric follows that of a bevy of seemingly reputable sources, whose framing of Trump's remarks included the following:Daily Beast: "Trump Fantasizes About Shooting Female Rival in the Face"CNN: "Trump says ‘war hawk’ Liz Cheney should be fired upon in escalation of violent rhetoric against his opponents"NPR: "Trump, using violent language, attacks 'war hawk' Liz Cheney"The Washington Post: "Trump suggests ‘war hawk’ Liz Cheney should have guns ‘trained on her face’"The New York Times: "Trump Attacks Liz Cheney Using Violent War Imagery"Axios: "Trump suggests Liz Cheney should have guns 'trained on her face'"The hysterics surrounding Trump's remarks have even reached the level of criminal investigation with Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes telling 12News that she may seek charges."I have already asked my criminal division chief to start looking at that statement, analyzing it for whether it qualifies as a death threat under Arizona's laws," Mayes said."I'm not prepared now to say whether it was or it wasn't, but it is not helpful as we prepare for our election and as we try to make sure that we keep the peace at our polling places and in our state."Vice President Harris also said that Trump has shown to be permanently out for revenge, increasingly unstable, unhinged, and possessing an ever-growing list of enemies. She added that Trump's rhetoric has become more and more "extreme" leading up to the election.Like Blaze News? Dem Muslims hammer away at Biden-Harris for losing anti-Israel vote as Trump visits Muslim-majority city

Dem Muslims hammer away at Biden-Harris for losing anti-Israel vote as Trump visits Muslim-majority city

Left-wing Muslims are calling out the Democratic Party for allowing former President Donald Trump to court the Muslim vote as his campaign announced a visit to Dearborn, Michigan. Muslims have decried the Biden-Harris administration for providing support for Israel in their military operation against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, and some have even called for U.S. Muslims to boycott the election. 'The reality is that the Biden admin’s unconditional support for genocide is what got us here. ... This election should not be this close.'Among those upset at the campaign visit to the Muslim-majority city is Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. "Trump is a proud Islamophobe + serial liar who does not stand for peace. The reality is that the Biden admin’s unconditional support for genocide is what got us here," said Tlaib on social media. "This should be a wake-up call for those who continue to support genocide. This election should not be this close."Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud mirrored her comments. "The architect of the Muslim Ban is making a campaign stop in Dearborn. People in this community know what Trump stands for - we suffered through it for years. I’ve refused a sit down with him although the requests keep pouring in," said Hammoud."Trump will never be my president. To the Dems - your unwillingness to stop funding & enabling a genocide created the space for Trump to infiltrate our communities. Remember that," he added. The visit by Trump is reportedly the first by a presidential candidate of a major political party. He visited a popular Muslim-owned restaurant, though the owner said he wasn't trying to tell anyone to vote for Trump. While there, Trump accepted a plaque "on behalf of all peace-loving Michiganders" for calling for peace in Lebanon. Vice President Kamala Harris apparently tried to appease the Muslim faction in her party by rejecting Jewish Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate, but the party has still faced vitriolic criticism as the unrest in the Middle East worsened. Some polls have also shown a shift in Jewish voters away from the Democrats to supporting Trump. Like Blaze News? Boston Celtics coach wants fighting in the NBA: 'What's more entertaining?'

Boston Celtics coach wants fighting in the NBA: 'What's more entertaining?'

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla says basketball fans have been robbed of the entertainment value that hard fouls and scuffles bring.Mazzulla was speaking with hosts on Boston's 98.5 The Sports Hub radio who were discussing potential rule changes to make the NBA more exciting.During the interview with Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand, Mazzulla asked a question that likely has never been asked before: "How come in baseball they're allowed to clear the benches?" The point of his question was to imply that there should be some form of fighting permitted in basketball, as well, resulting in penalties."I think the biggest thing that we rob people from as an entertainment standpoint is you can't fight anymore," he told the hosts. "I wish you could bring back fighting."Basketball has a history of scuffles and rough play, particularly in the late 1980s and early 1990s, an era that featured very physical players like Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas. The radio hosts pointed out that the NBA rarely ever features any hard fouls anymore, adding that there isn't a "fear" of physical repercussions for modern players like that there has been in the past.Mazzulla added, "I mean, you want to talk talk about robbing the league of entertainment; what's more entertaining than when there is a little scuffle?" Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon in an altercation.Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesMazzulla was also adamant about adding an advantage for teams who have a foul committed against them. The coach claimed that "basketball is one of the only sports that doesn't have a power play.""I think soccer just put in the 'blue card' where a guy has to go off, and it's a 10 on nine. Like we should have a power play."Mazzulla was referring to a trial blue card in lower-tier soccer leagues, such as the Women's Super League, where players are sent off the field for 10 minutes for specific violations.ESPN reported that the rule, if implemented, would not be adopted by top soccer leagues until at least 2026-2027.At the same time, most sports actually do not have a power play.Along with basketball, baseball, football, and soccer do not such rules in place. Hockey is the only major North American sport that has players going off for a predetermined amount of time after a foul.Lacrosse has power plays, however, and rugby has a form of 10-minute misconduct penalty that is similar to what is being proposed for soccer. The Celtics coach and the radio hosts went on to discuss possible ways to implement a power play system in the NBA“Let's say you have a technical or let’s say you get a take foul, and you get the one shot, but you're not really rewarded for that because if you miss it, you don’t get the reward for that take foul," Mazzulla explained. "So there should be a power play where on a take foul or on a technical, you have to play five on four for five seconds or three passes."The hosts then suggested the length of a penalty could be one possession. In response, Mazzulla broke down what he thinks the rule should be:"Instead of taking the ball out on the side, you commit a foul and the other guy goes to the other side of half court and he can't pass the half court circle for like, three seconds."The 36-year-old has been incredibly transparent since filling the coaching role in Boston. He has revealed his deep religious faith to reporters and has even shrugged off race-baiting questions from activist journalists en route to a 2024 NBA championship.Like Blaze News?
