Neil Youngs’s Resume Buffalo Springfield – Though they only stayed together for a couple of albums, Buffalo Springfield, which included Stephen Stills, left an indelible mark on Rock music. They’re best remembered for the tense hit “For What It’s Worth.” However, that song was easily eclipsed by Young’s “Mr. Soul” which sounded like a bridge between “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – CSN had produced a successful album (it sold well) but it was pretty bland. Stills asked Young if he’d play on the second album and if he’d mind playing for free. When Young balked, it was decided to invite him to join. He provided an edge whether the other three wanted it or not. When four Kent State college kids protesting the Vietnam War were gunned down by National Guardsmen an outraged, Young wrote and CSN&Y recorded “Ohio,” one of the most scathing anti-war songs of the era. Ohio Stills/Young Band – The one-time Buffalo Springfield bandmates one-off project had some great tracks including one of Young’s all-time best, “Long May You Run,” which was about his first car and an old girlfriend. Long May You Run Crazy Horse – In the ’70s Young discovered and hired Crazy Horse, an unknown but great group (that included guitarist Danny Whitten) as his backing band. The highlights included “Cinnamon Girl,” one of the best riff-Rockers ever recorded. Young got back with Crazy Horse in ’90 and produced “Ragged Glory.” The set is pure guitar driven Rock. “Country Home,” and “Love To Burn” are the incredible tracks on stunning album. Four years later, Young and Crazy Horse recorded the haunting, Kurt Cobain inspired, “Sleeps With Angels” album. Having not worked with the full Crazy Horse line-up since ’96 (“Broken Arrow”), Young released not one but two albums with the band. “Americana” was a collection of Folk standards given the Garage Rock treatment. “Psychedelic Pill” was in the same vein but with original material. Solo – Young’s solo work has encompassed Country, Big Band Rock, and retro-Rock. His biggest commercial successes include the acoustic-Country influenced “After The Gold Rush” (’70), featuring the critical “Southern Man” (which was later referenced in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” where there’s the line “hope Neil Young will remember, southern man don’t need him around any how”) and “Harvest” (’72), featuring hits “Heart Of Gold” and “Old Man.” Young has managed to keep his anti-establishment stance intact, especially with songs like the title track from his ’88 set “This Note’s For You” which blasts Rock’s commercialization. Just a year later he produced the “Freedom” album that began with an acoustic version of “Rockin’ In The Free World” and ended with a hard-edged electric version. The song satirized the “kinder gentler” mode of then-President Bush. A Prayer for Peace This Election SeasonBy Alicia Searl Bible Reading"For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." – Colossians 1:16-17 Listen or Read Below Well, my fellow Americans, we have reached yet another pivotal place for our beloved country. A nation that was once founded under God, promoting peace, justice, and liberty for all, and solemnly known as the land of the free because of the brave is now at a crucial tipping point. It's election season! While "we the people" have seen our fair share of tense elections, rivalries, and division over the course of nearly 250 years, I still can't help being glued to the TV or aimlessly scrolling social media, searching for any glimmer of hope. The truth of the matter is that after a global pandemic, mass pandemonium, and tensions that continue to rise both nationwide and abroad, my heart aches, as I am sure yours does.  Sadly, both political parties seem to be at odds, groveling for your vote, and the truth has somehow gotten replaced with disingenuous and ruthless jabs or nonchalant talk of policies. Honestly, it's easy to get sucked into a place of worry, anxiety, and maybe even fear. After all, we all just want to be able to raise our families in a safe environment and allow them to pursue the blessings of liberty rather than watch it crumble under the weight of ferocious politics. Yet, as believers, as much as the world wants to frazzle our nerves, we must hold on tightly to a vastly different perspective. Friend, in these wildly crazy times, we must cling to the truth that our God is still in control (Proverbs 19:21), and His plan holds a much greater purpose. As we head into another truly tense election that will determine our commander-in-chief, will you join me in lifting your heart to our first Commander and ask for His wisdom, comfort, and healing upon our land?  Remain FaithfulThe Bible commands us to pray for those who are in leadership and, furthermore, that we must submit to their authority. This includes our local, state, and national officials, along with those who are contending to become leaders (Romans 13:1-2). While this may prove difficult, we must remain faithful and invite God into the concerns, frustrations, and fears we hold in our hearts, allowing Him to grant us peace that surpasses all understanding. Seek DiscernmentAs followers of Christ, it is crucial that we allow our faith to lead and direct us when it comes to choosing a candidate. We must seek to understand each party's values pertaining to the sanctity of life, beliefs on the principles of marriage, and that the First Amendment protecting our religious freedoms will be upheld. In other words, as we head to the ballot box, we must seek discernment and ask for God to guide us as we decide which candidate will best serve our families, communities, churches, states, and nation (James 1:5). Promote PeaceIn John 14:27, Jesus reminds us that He offers a kind of peace that is not of this world. As we head into this election and the state of "not knowing" may stroke a little fear, maybe even causing some to react in immoral or unjust ways, we have the choice to promote peace. When heated conversations or actions unfold, we have the chance to defuse them with compassion and grace. Let's show a hurting nation what it means to come together in unity under God and get back to our faithful roots!   Let's Pray: Almighty Father, we are so thankful that we live in a country that allows us the ability to choose our political leaders. As we head into another presidential election, and we sense the tension, we ask that You put a hedge of protection around each candidate, as well as their families. Please guard their hearts and grant them wisdom as they develop plans and policies for our beloved nation. O God, we also recognize that we need Your mercy and grace. We come before You heartbroken and concerned for the fate of our nation. We desperately need You. Please forgive us where we have failed and help us turn from our selfish ways. Give us a bold faith to live in a way that honors and glorifies You. We trust in Your plan, Lord, and know that it holds a greater purpose. So, with that, we find comfort in You alone, no matter the outcome of this election. We will continue to walk in humility and grace as we remain faithful, seek Your wisdom, and promote peace. We love our nation and trust that You will offer a pathway forward that embraces hope and peace. Amen. October 21, 2024 The Truth You Need When Life Gets ChaoticCATHERINE MARTINEZ Lee en español "Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you." 2 Timothy 1:14 (NLT) It had been a long day, and I needed sleep, but I still had to put my children to bed. My 2-year-old brought me a board book about the gospel and lifted it up to my face, her way of telling me she wanted to read. I'm too exhausted for this, I thought. And then: If I was actually a good mom, I'd have more energy. Followed by: Have I done a single thing right today? Half the time I don't even know what the right thing is. "OK, we'll read it once," I told her. When we reached the end of the book, she insisted we start over. Then again ... and again. By the fifth read-through, I realized the simple and beautiful message wasn’t just for her - it was for me too. I've known and believed in Jesus since I was a little girl, but that day, I needed His Truth to confront the chaos in my life. The lies of the enemy were threatening to overtake my mind, but when I was reminded of Jesus' life, death and resurrection, I was ready to fight back. We find a similar idea in Paul's second letter to Timothy, his missionary assistant who became like a son to him. Paul was waiting to be put to death in a Roman prison when he wrote this letter, and he had endured much persecution, but his greatest concern was passing on his passion for the gospel. That's why he gave Timothy an important assignment: "Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you" (2 Timothy 1:14). In the world's chaos and confusion, Paul didn't want Timothy to lose sight of the One who is Truth and peace - Jesus. Guarding the Truth starts in our own hearts: When the days get long, life gets hard and the world becomes chaotic, we need to preach the gospel to ourselves again ... and again. As we do, the Holy Spirit leads and guides us, and He also empowers us to share the Good News with others. I know I need to hear this every day, and I'm pretty sure you do too. So here's the Truth: Jesus loves us. He died to redeem our brokenness and make us right with God, and He rose from the grave to defeat death so all who believe in Him can have eternal life (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; John 3:16). By faith, we can live with confidence that one day, He will return, make all things new and wipe away our tears (Revelation 21:4-5). Let's ask Jesus to fill our hearts with a passion to know and proclaim this precious Truth - because it truly is Good News. Dear God, thank You for the salvation You've given me through Jesus. Show me what it looks like to guard the good deposit of the gospel in my life. Give me the desire to dig deeper into Your Word so when lies come, I'm ready to fight them with Your Truth. During an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears revealed how many noncitizens were found on the state’s voter rolls. As 100 Percent Fed Up reported, the U.S. Department of Justice sued the State of Virginia, the Virginia State Board of Elections, and the Virginia Commissioner of Elections for allegedly purging noncitizens from its voter rolls too close to November’s election. Justice Department Sues Another State Following Effort To Purge Voter Rolls Of Noncitizens The Justice Department alleged the voter roll purge violated the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA). “Section 8(c)(2) of the NVRA, also known as the Quiet Period Provision, requires states to complete systematic programs aimed at removing the names of ineligible voters from voter registration lists no later than 90 days before federal elections,” the Justice Department stated in a press release. “The Quiet Period Provision applies to certain systematic programs carried out by states that are aimed at striking names from voter registration lists based on a perceived failure to meet initial eligibility requirements — including citizenship — at the time of registration,” it added. “As the National Voter Registration Act mandates, officials across the country should take heed of the law’s crystal clear and unequivocal restrictions on systematic list maintenance efforts that fall within 90 days of an election,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “By cancelling voter registrations within 90 days of Election Day, Virginia places qualified voters in jeopardy of being removed from the rolls and creates the risk of confusion for the electorate. Congress adopted the National Voter Registration Act’s quiet period restriction to prevent error-prone, eleventh hour efforts that all too often disenfranchise qualified voters. The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy and the Justice Department will continue to ensure that the rights of qualified voters are protected,” Clarke added. "So they have 14 days to prove that they are actually eligible to vote," she continued. "We found people who have been dead since 1960 who were still on the voter rolls," Sears added. GOP-Led State’s Effort To Purge Voter Rolls Of Noncitizens Blocked By Federal Judge U.S. District Judge Anna Manasco ruled that the state violated the National Voter Registration Act’s “quiet period” provision. Manasco ordered Wes Allen, Alabama’s Republican secretary of state, to “pause the voter removal program through the election.”

When Jimi Hendrix passed away in 1970, he left behind a litany of valuables including his guitars, his flashy clothing and…Electric Lady Studios. Over the course of a couple months, the guitarist logged in as many hours as he could at Electric Lady before leaving on tour for Europe, never to return. The triple-CD, single Blu-ray Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision box set collects much of the music Hendrix recorded at the studio, while the included documentary with the same name tells the story of how Hendrix’s vision of Electric Lady Studios became a reality. The Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision documentary, which enjoyed a brief theatrical run, is on the Blu-ray bundled with the CDs. Producer Eddie Kramer does much of the talking, as he’s the one who convinced Hendrix that a recording studio would be far more lucrative and inspiring than the planned nightclub. Other participants, including architect John Storyk, studio manager Jim Marron, and several Electric Lady engineers and staff members, all played a part in bringing the state-of-the-art studio to life. Even after Hendrix’s death, Electric Lady continued to thrive with clients like Carly Simon, Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. To this day, it remains one of the most in-demand recording studios in the world. Much of the details of the film, as well as the names of the studio’s wide spectrum of patrons, photos of its construction, even blueprints, appear in the 47-page book that comes in the set. Hi-resolution audiophiles will relish the Blu-ray’s 5.1 surround sound mix of the entire First Rays Of The New Rising Sun album plus three bonus tracks — “Valleys Of Neptune,” “Pali Gap,” and “Lover Man” — all featuring Hendrix, bassist Billy Cox, and drummer Mitch Mitchell. If only the guitarist himself could have experienced the aural spaces this mix opens up. Thirty-nine previously unreleased (except for one) takes, mixes, demos, alternates, extended jams, and whatever else they could find comprise the three CDs. You’ll hear Hendrix call the shots while the band stops and starts through “Drifter’s Escape,” and marvel as the players circle around “The Long Medley,” all while offering a rare glimpse into the working process. Elsewhere, the demo for “Heaven Has No Sorrow” and an alternative take of “Angel” are clear indications that Hendrix’s innate gift for songwriting and arrangement was transcending the pyrotechnics.
