Sword Art Online is, seemingly, eternal. For more than two decades now, what originally began as a series of novels has spawned a plethora of adaptations and spin-offs ranging from various anime instalments and films to nearly two dozen different videogames. It’s a cold, snowy night in Sanctuary. Crowds have gathered around a stone plinth in Kyovashad, hushed into silence. Among the updates are new tabs being added to Facebook that are meant to surface more content for users, including recommendations based on a person’s location. A new “Local” tab will collect content from other Facebook surfaces like the resale platform Marketplace, local groups, and events — essentially what sounds like Facebook’s version of Nextdoor. The Local tab is being tested in 10 US cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin, Texas. After some sleuthing, Reddit users narrowed it down to a Samsung SmartThings framework app update that was automatically applied to the devices. According to posts on Reddit, Samsung replaced the buggy update with a new version that won’t brick the five-year-old devices. (The Galaxy S10 series was released in 2019.) Still, some users recommend staying cautious and turning off auto-updates anyway. Washington DC—The wave of automation has finally reached the nation’s capitol as the entire US Congress and staff will be replaced with automated tellers in the coming weeks, amid talks of Congress getting a raise. “At $174,000 a year and a substantial amount for life, that was getting pretty expensive,” President Trump’s legislative liaison Marjory Jenkins said. “So, we decided what was best for the country and the taxpayer was to just replace every representative and senator with a computer.” The automated tellers are programmed to give canned responses to constituents’ questions, just like the real politicians. “I wrote my automated senator about a very important topic to us all,” Jills Leland said, “and the machine thanked me for caring about the community and said that my concerns were being addressed and then it didn’t do anything about it. It was just like my real senator!” “Plus, we don’t have to worry about health care and all the other associated costs,” Jenkins continued. The plan is projected to save billions of dollars a year, especially considering all the staffers that come with the legislators.
