Wear OS watches might soon have an edge when it comes to blood oxygen

Masimo is keen to offer its expertise to Wear OS smartwatch makers for biosensing tech. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Last week, medical device maker Masimo announced new deals with Google and Qualcomm to bring its biosensing tech to Wear OS smartwatches. That’s pretty inside baseball for the wearable industry, but it takes an interesting turn when you realize Masimo is also the reason why the new Apple Watch Series 10 doesn’t have blood oxygen features in the U.S. From the outside, it sort of looks like the company battling Apple over blood oxygen is now setting the terms for how that exact tech is used by Apple’s smartwatch rivals. Securing the bag, so to speak, against other alleged patent infringement. Masimo CEO Joe Kiani says that’s not exactly how he sees it. As part of the deals, Masimo is creating a reference platform where its tech is... Continue reading…

Goodbye dead zones: Brilliant new tech turns windows into 5G antennas

We've been using 5G technology and its faster data speeds for several years now. However, the main problem with 5G networks is that extending coverage is more difficult than it is with 4G LTE. That explains why you won't have 5G access everywhere you go and why performance may vary even when you do have coverage. The solution to expanding 5G coverage is simple, at least in theory. You need to place more base stations that extend the reach of 5G radio waves. That's especially true in densely populated urban areas. 5G equipment will increase costs for carriers because 5G base stations don't reach as far as 4G antennas. Hence, there is a need to install more of them to have a good signal and eliminate dead zones. This causes another issue. You have to find space for all these 5G base stations. Each carrier must roll out its own infrastructure to extend 5G coverage. Continue reading... The post Goodbye dead zones: Brilliant new tech turns windows into 5G antennas appeared first on BGR. Regular iPhone 17 models rumored to get Apple’s best Pro display feature

Regular iPhone 17 models rumored to get Apple’s best Pro display feature

One of the major complaints of the tech community is the lack of dynamic refresh rate on the regular iPhone models, as many mid-Android phones already feature at least 90Hz refresh rate for years now. However, it seems this is about to change, as all iPhone 17 models are expected to feature ProMotion and Always-On Display technologies. First rumored by display analyst Ross Young and then corroborated by Weibo leaker Ice Universe, they both were talking about this possibility on X, after the iPhone 16 release. With that, Young still believes the upcoming iPhone 17 models will get an LTPO display with 120Hz. That said, both iPhone 17 and the rumored iPhone 17 Slim could get this technology that has been exclusive to the Pro lineup for years now. Over the years, Apple introduced several features from the regular models to the Pro, such as OLED display, 48MP camera resolution, macro mode, and even the Dynamic Island. While some people are still skeptical about the regular iPhone 17 models adopting ProMotion, as the iPhone 16 already feels very Pro, Apple might have enough new features to distinguish its lineup. In addition to this rumor, Young is once again saying Apple might add under-display Face ID to the iPhone 17 Pro. That was his prediction a few years ago, but this year, he said Apple had some technical issues and delayed the introduction of this feature to the iPhone 18. if it's now coming again, this mean the roadmap for future iPhones looks better than ever: iPhone Pro: 2025: Under panel Face ID + hole 2026: Under panel Face ID: + hole 2027: Under panel face ID + under panel camera Regular iPhone: 2024: Pill shape without AOD and ProMotion 2025: Pill shape with AOD and ProMotion 2026: Pill shape with AOD and ProMotion 2027: Under panel Face ID + hole with AOD and ProMotion Below, you can learn the latest iPhone 17 rumors. Viking-Age Cabin Excavated on Ancient Norwegian Mountain Path

Archaeologists from the University of Oslo’s Museum of Cultural History have recently conducted an excavation at Holmetjønn, an ancient mountain cabin site along the historic Nordmannslepa trail. The investigation uncovered evidence of both Viking-age and medieval shelters in the harsh landscape of the Hardangervidda plateau. The findings will provide valuable insights into how travelers in this region sought shelter and sustenance while trekking through the mountains. An Ancient Path The Great Nordmannslepa is one of Norway’s ancient transport routes, stretching across the Hardangervidda and connecting Western and Eastern Norway, explains the University of Oslo report. It was once a crucial path for transporting goods and livestock. This summer, a team of archaeologists explored the remnants of a cabin near Holmetjønn, located about a five kilometer (3 mile) walk from the existing modern Stigstuv tourist lodge, following part of the old trail. The great Nordmannslepa path winds over the Hardangervidda mountain range.
