Florida Voters Reject Constitutional Right To Abortion In Victory For DeSantis

Voters in Florida on Tuesday rejected Amendment 4, which would have created a right to an abortion in the state constitution. Decision Desk determined that the measure was a failure at 8:15 p.m. ET. Amendment 4’s failure is a victory for Governor Ron DeSantis, who led the opposition to the measure in his state. The measure needed 60% support from voters to pass. Decision Desk HQ projects Amendment 4 fails in Florida.#DecisionMade: 8:15 PM EDT Follow live results here:https://t.co/BIuZ0Iiayw pic.twitter.com/SMnu0BSsFS — Decision Desk HQ (@DecisionDeskHQ) November 6, 2024 DeSantis campaigned against the measure, warning Floridians that its passage would turn the state into an “abortion mecca.” “Because all of the Southeast has various forms of pro-life legislation, Florida would become the abortion mecca of this region — and maybe one of the abortion meccas of the entire world, because it would be one of the most liberal abortion regimes anywhere in the world,” the governor told a group of faith leaders over the summer. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ The measure, if it passed, would have established a right to an abortion in the Florida constitution up to “fetal viability.” It would have overruled Florida’s current law, a heartbeat bill, which bans abortion at six weeks after a fetal heartbeat can be detected. In addition to enshrining a right to an abortion, the measure also would have restricted parental oversight, a point DeSantis continually hammered as an infringement on parents’ right to raise their children. DeSantis spokeswoman Taryn Fenske previously described the measure: “Amendment 4 doesn’t just repeal existing abortion laws; it overturns all regulations, including parental consent, taxpayer funding restrictions, and opens the door for non-doctors to perform abortions. Funded by dark money from liberal out-of-state billionaires, Amendment 4 paves the way for unrestricted access to abortion up until viability — and beyond — through numerous loopholes.” “Floridians could be forced to pay for abortions, fundamentally altering both healthcare practices and the ethical landscape of our state,” Fenske said. The campaign for Amendment 4 was propelled by progressive groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood. Progressive mega donor George Soros and his network also supported the measure, as well as Democratic dark money groups. Outside groups poured millions of dollars into the campaign for the measure. Planned Parenthood and its network poured $100 million into the effort. The campaign to pass Amendment 4 ran ads on Florida stations that alleged that Florida’s law endangered women. Florida’s Department of Health sent cease and desist letters to stations that ran the ad, threatening lawsuits for dishonest claims about the state’s abortion laws.

Trump Projected To Win North Carolina

Trump Projected To Win North Carolina

Former President Donald Trump is projected to win the swing state of North Carolina, securing the state’s 15 Electoral College votes, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ. The race was called for Trump with 58% of the vote counted with Trump leading Harris 51.1% to 47.8%. Trump has now secured 210 votes in the Electoral College and only needs 60 more to reach the 270 threshold to be declared the winner. In 2020, North Carolina was one of the states that former President Donald Trump held from his 2016 presidential victory. For the last two months, the state has been recovering from devastating storms and historic flooding that it faced in September from Hurricane Helene. There is no automatic recount that is triggered based on the election results, but a candidate who is behind may request one if they are down by 0.5 percentage points or less of the total number of votes. Polls leading up to the election showed a tight race between the two candidates, with Trump leading Harris in the RealClearPolitics average by 1.2 points headed into Election Day. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ North Carolina has seen a decrease in the amount of spending that has gone into political advertisements during the 2024 campaign cycle when compared to the amount of spending from 2020. In 2020, nearly $617 million was spent in the state for all political races, with Republicans spending $269 million and Democrats spending $348 million. However, those number have decreased by roughly $150 million in 2024, with both parties spending a combined total of $479 million on ads. For the 2024 presidential race in the state, Democrats outspent Republicans $123 million to $84 million.

This New Lawmaker Will Be Among Youngest to Hold a Seat in Congress

Republican Brandon Gill defeated Democrat Ernest Lineberger, 62.9% to 35.6%, in unofficial results Tuesday night to secure an open seat representing Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. At 30, Gill will be among the youngest Republicans ever to hold a seat in Congress.  The Associated Press called the race for Gill after 9 p.m. ET with about 74% of the vote in. He will represent Texas’ 26th Congressional District when Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, retires at the end of his term Jan. 3. Gill was endorsed by, among others, former President Donald Trump, the party’s three-time nominee for president, and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who also won Tuesday night. I am humbled and honored to share that I’ve been officially endorsed by President Donald J. Trump in my run for US Congress in TX-26.To the people of TX-26 and President Trump: I will not let you down. pic.twitter.com/VcrRSDim9g— Brandon Gill (@realBrandonGill) December 2, 2023 Also in the race was independent candidate Phil Gray, a Libertarian, who got 1.9% of the vote.  After a stint as an investment banker on Wall Street, Gill became an analyst at a global hedge fund.  Gill’s campaign emphasized issues outlined on his website: illegal immigration, the economy, crime, energy, the Second Amendment, a pro-life perspective on abortion, standing up for Israel, protecting children from gender transition surgeries, and fighting cultural Marxism in schools and higher education.  “My district is looking for a conservative, Republican fighter,” Gill said in an interview with Diya TV’s Ravi Kapur posted on YouTube. “Somebody who is going to stand up to the establishment. Somebody who is going to actually represent the values of conservative Texans in Washington. That’s something we don’t have enough of right now, and that’s something I’ll certainly do.”  Gill grew up on a thousand-acre cattle ranch near Abilene, Texas. He went to Dartmouth College and graduated cum laude with degrees in economics and history.   He is married to Danielle D’Souza, daughter of conservative commentator, writer, and documentary filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza. They have one daughter.  “What President Trump is looking for right now, more than anything else, is he’s looking for somebody who’s going to go to bat for him in Congress, who’s going to defend him,” Gill said in an interview with the Texas Tribune. “Because the Left is coming after President Trump with every single thing that they have.”  The post This New Lawmaker Will Be Among Youngest to Hold a Seat in Congress  appeared first on The Daily Signal.
